I believe this is a constant-aperture lens so yes, it's good for video.

Yes, this will become everyone's most favorite lens.

Pricey, but very practical at f/1.8 with OSS.

I know, many of you like the wider view (and IQ) of the Sigma 30mm as a walk around lens. But the Sigma is too slow for general use, yet it is great for daytime shots.

I think that either the Sigma 19mm or the Sony Zeiss 24mm will form a good complement.

For those new to the Nex system, this E35 is a get-first type of lens. For those that already have a few lenses, the E35 is a must-have type of lens.

Yeah, different people prefer 24, 28, 30 or 35mm on APS-C - I was happy swapping between my Canon FDn 28/2.8 & 50/1.4, but my FDn 35/2 is putting both of them into early retirement - it's fast becoming the perfect all-round focal length for me! I'm sure the SEL3518 will be great. YMMV

Available from middle of November according to the Sony website

By my reckoning that makes it 15th/16th so a bit late.

I pre-ordered mine through Amazon. Sony estimate ship date Dec 23...which is too late for the shopping season.

I want a prime for my NEX NOW... can't decide to get  Carl Zeiss now or wait for the 35mm 1.8.

God...I wish I could afford this bad boy. My instincts - based on the 50mm and the kit lens performance at 35mm-are that this lens is going to be spectacular, but any small advantage the zeiss will have will be completely dominated by the OSS-particularly for video. Imagine taking videos with this beast with auto focus, 1.8 at 35mm all with OSS. So much versatility. If only we could order it with an aperture ring and true manual focus like legacy glass I would sell my espresso equipment to get it.
