Canon EF-S 15-85mm USM -- focus ring doesn't "stop"

My new 15-85 just arrived in the mail, and I notice that when I turn the focus ring, the distance scale will rotate as I would expect, however when it reaches the end of the scale, the focus ring will continue to turn, albeit a bit more stiffly.  I haven't tried for fear of compounding a problem, but it feels like it would continue in a full rotation.  This is my first USM lens; is this normal behaviour, or is something wrong?  It feels odd to me; I would have expected the ring to stop turning when it reaches the end of the focus range.

I'm at work, so I haven't had the chance to actually try the lens on my camera yet.

This is completely normal and exactly as it should be. No need to worry.
Enjoy your lens!

I believe it's the FTM mechanism that works this way but you will see in the little top window when max. is reached. Enjoy I got the same lens it's great!
