Canon SX40 HS resolution

When I process shots from my SX40 in Photoshop the resolution from the camera is only 180dpi, even on the highest setting, this seems rather low to me even (even an 8 year old Nikon p5100 has 300dpi).   If i want to print at a3 or a2 as it says on the camera then it needs to be better resolution than 180dpi surely. Is there a way of changing the dpi from the camera?

Thanks

In Photoshop, under Image Size (Alt+Ctrl+I), besides dimension and document size, you can change the resolution to anything you want.
