Colorfoto Germany - New sensor design in NX210 ?

German photo reviewer "COLORFOTO" gives an astonishing comment to the resolution qualities of the NX210. They say the image sensor has been redesigned and delivers different (better) quality. This is really a surprise to me.

Here the translation to the comment on image quality.

Although the basic data are unchanged, the NX210 achieves better image quality than the NX200. Especially her signal processing, does not raise the border resolution too exaggerated. The camera achieves a better balance between higher dead leaves values, lower texture losses and weaker noise (DL 1297 LP / BH, kurtosis 0.6, 0.5 UN at ISO 100). The high dynamic range of up to 10.3 aperture decreases, however, already at ISO 1600 to 7.0 apertures.

Anybody can confirm, that NX210 or NX1000 image output is  ....  lets say ..... different to NX200?

I took a second look, and now I see .... they tested on different lenses.

NX200 with 60mm Macro lens
NX210 with 18-55mm OIS lens

If they really tested on two different lenses, this resume is really weired!

I looked at the dpr image comparisons. although it seems that the IQ does look to be a bit more cleaner on the NX210 at base ISO, I don't think it is better overall. the DR does suffer as you go up higher in sensitivity. but still, good work.

I don't think it is a different sensor but rather different implementation of the same sensor. maybe thru firmware.

It may not be a new design but possibly changes in manufacturing processes, different supplier, improvements in materials. I am always curious how people seem to think that the sensor in a particular type of camera is immutable and can never vary in any way until a new camera designation appears.

Just because a sensor improves does not mean it has been redesigned. I am sure most manufactures try to improve quality without necessarily re-branding the product. They might just be getting better at making the thing. The life cycle of an product will be initial problems with an eventual improvement to a peak followed by a decline in quality as complacency sets in.
