Is there a friendly guide for 5n?

5n is a fantastic camera, but the variety of options is overwhelming: iAuto, HDR/DRO, AMB, HHT, Photo Creativity style/Picture effects, front curtain shutter, custom buttons functions can be hard to find buried in the menu, let alone to properly manage them. My last Sony cameras were a couple of R1s, much more traditional.

Is there an electronic or printed friendly user guide, like a 5n for Dummies?

Ciao!

Gary Friedman's 'Complete guide to SONY NEX cameras' is the best one out there - it's not free though - but worth the price.

+1 for the Friedman guide - takes you through in nice easy steps and recommends settings to help you get the most out of your camera....

David Busch's Sony NEX-5N is very good.

Two answers, then

So the answer practically is: Gary Friedman's or David Busch's guide.

Any thoughts to prefer one over the other (i.e. the strong points of each)?

Ciao!

I like Friedman's book.  Cost is not that high for electronic version.

Friedman only writes about Sony cameras. His books are very well written. I have yet to see one person not happy with his books.

I know nothing about the other author.

Good luck with your choice.

Re: Friedman's book?

Was his book written for the 5N or the 5?  Is there a significant difference?  I thought I had read in a post that at least that person found it frustrating that the book wasn't really updated for the 5N.  I don't know if it matters.  I'm just repeating something that I had read and wondering if any others felt the same.

Re: Friedman's book?

The book is "The complete guide to Sony's NEX 3, 5 and 5N Mirrorless cameras and Emount system" ver 2.2

So you have then three cameras covered in one book.

Cheers

Re: Is there a friendly guide for 5n?

I already owned the Busch book. Based on this thread, I bought the Friedman book.

Wow! The Friedman book might just be the best book explaining ANY topic I've ever read on anything! Nice clear, lucid writing with really great illustrations. You won't be sorry if you buy this book.

If anyone wants my copy of the Busch book, it is available at a discount!

Well, you might count the number of people just in this single thread that didn't feel the prices were a rip off. Each must make their own decision.

Re: Is there a friendly guide for 5n?

so you think £84 / $135 for a book is not a rip off ?
