I hate to say it but it will get a silver because of value.

I think steelhead is right... at $2400 it would probably get gold, but $2800 is a tad steep.

Starting stupid threads like this is probably why A77 got silver too.  Grow up. Even D600 hasn't been reviewed it. Don't expect A99 review for at least 30 (most likely 60) days.

Is A99 on sale yet?
I guess it will take some time still before we see a review.

Why is someone so obsessed with DP awards, and awards in general???

The A77 only received a 'silver' award, but that doesn't make it any 'less' of a camera in my view.

All recent (and most past) modern SLR's and SLT's are great cameras that are capable of producing phenomenal images when used by skilled photographers.

The answer to your question, is exaggerated brand pride. Many insecure people look for external validation (even though the op likely won't own the a99), then there are some of us who could care less what the majority thinks.

I will be receiving the K5II-s soon and I could care less if they give it the plastic award. It is what it is, regardless of what others think or say.

Then I wonder why D800 or D800E deserved gold award when they were costing what they costed at the time.

out there are already enough reviews to understand the machine. DP is not the most authoritative of the other test

Your psychiatrist deserves a Gold Award!

On the other hand maybe not, because he doesn't seem to be making any progress with your condition!

It does indeed, better tracking and lowlight AF that is better than the a99. In fact, it is tied for the best of any camera at -3EV (tied with 6D).

The k52 compared to the 6D, I think you have found your competition.

Positive waves is the answer I think

Everyone should concentrate on exuding positive mind waves about a gold award for the A99 from this moment without pause until the review is released, then I’m almost sure your wish will be fulfilled, one should never underestimate the power of positive waves. (A sacrifice or two wouldn’t hurt either, just in case)

Greg

Ps One small side issue about language does intrigue me though; it’s something I haven’t been able to ‘get’ so far and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on it, it’s just something that nags and I’m sure you all know what it’s like when something nags…

I often see people say ‘I could care less’ about something or other and wonder what is meant by that. The statement indicates that it IS possible to care less by a further unknown amount.

I think it would help if only one knew what the current amount of not caring was which is probably not much admittedly, but by the same token there is an implied potential of an additional amount of not caring yet to be established…or a ‘care less’ factor not currently deployed.

Or too put it another way, I ‘could care less’ by a larger amount if I wanted too but I have chosen too not care less by the full amount available on this occasion. I think what would be helpful is for people to nominate a care less factor, such as ‘I could care less but it’s currently at -8’ (an 8 out of 10) then we would know that there is quite a lot of not caring happening but there is still -2 in reserve.

Whereas if one said ‘I couldn’t care less’ that would indicate that the maximum amount of not caring has been achieved and it’s not possible to care any less, or otoh, it isn’t possible too ‘not care’ by a larger amount, (but that depends on the viewpoint, by which I mean is it even possible to make something less by a larger amount?). Would you all agree with that? Or don’t you care?

I guess the thumbs up is an indication that at least one other reader has tired of this guys obsession with gold awards.
