I want to sell 15-85mm, but with dust!?

Hi everyone !

I have 15-85mm Canon lens for a few months, I noticed some dust under the front element.

Now, I want to sell it, it is like new except the dust. I watch some Youtube clips on how to clean the dust by unplug the front element. I can do it, but these may reduce the sell price.

Any ideas .. ?

Thanks.

Leave the dust.  Most people buying on the forums understand that dust doesn't affect the pictures and if selling to someone who doesn't know, point them to one of the forums.  You may have to ask just a a bit under the going rate, as a same condition lens without dust with most likely sell for a little more and quicker.  I wouldn't want to buy a lens where I know the front element has been removed. It may or may not make a difference, but that's just me.  If a professional didn't remove it, then I won't buy it.

Re: I want to sell 15-85mm, but with dust!?

About 2 weeks ago I sold my 17-55 lens on ebay. It had 5 or 6 dust specks under the lens.

In the item description I was upfront and said it had dust, and that it did not affect image quality.

I strive for honesty and accuracy in my descriptions.

The price I got for it was in the same range as those lenses being sold with no mention of dust.

BTW, the buyer gave me positive FB.

Helpful insights , I will sell it as is.

Thank you.

This is good.

The problem is how to convince buyers here, that dust is phenomenon of this lens after use for period of time, and not affect image quality , but I will try.

Thanks...

Maybe ask Canon how much they want for cleaning the lens.

I have a 2.8/17-55 IS and I'm thinking to sell it. But there is a lot of dust behind the front element. As far as I remember Canon will not only clean the lens but also improved the front sealing. This might be a selling proposition. Though, I'm not sure that this applies to your lens too.

I think a lot of people know the dust won't affect IQ. But to assure the buyer that they won't be stuck with a bad lens, I offer a 14 day return policy.
