Studio Test Shot...K5-IIs!

Comparison between K5-II (same quality as K5) vs K5-IIs:

Conclusion....we have a winner in the K5-IIs! The lens used is Pentax-M 50mm f/4.0 macro. Manual focusing with focus lock confirmation.

(Both the tested units of K5-II and K5-IIs are pre-production units).

Pentax K-5

Wesley,

Damn you, now you've got me interested!!!

What f-stop?

Any chance to post a crop of the model right eye/eyelashes?

Cheers,

AlainCo

The f-stop used is f/11. It's not registered on the EXIF because I was using a manual lens.

That is some difference, I always hated how soft my k5 look compared to my gx10.

Re: For your 'eyes' only...

Nice.
It seems there is no need to sharpen in post with that crop, which would mean less noise overall.  I think having no AA is a win.

That's probably already diffraction limited. It might be even sharper with a larger aperture, obviously with DOF-limitations.

Wesley,

thanks a lot for your first comparison shots - really impressive.

Do you notice any difference in IQ regarding current K-5 versus new K-5 II?

Lovely shots. Nice to see camera tests which are also aesthetically pleasing.

The big question about the K5IIs is that moire might appear. As a wedding shooter that's very important to me. Do you have any shots showing clothing?

Also, how is the new autofocus?

Thanks for doing this comparison, it's a real service to all of us who want to know about this

Could you try it in situations that might provoke Moiré, so we can see what the risk is?

Thanks a lot

well, i thought the AA-less pictures would have noticeably more detail.  i am happy to see this; it is a bigger difference than i thought it would be.  it is a good thing for the company.

how did you explain the point of the exercise to your model?  "i need lots of active hair so we can compare results.." ?  or was she unaware of the comparison and just thought things were business as usual?

.. in less than 15 posts in a thread.

Must be a new record in holding a breath on DPR.

Not sure if it works with wedding photography style, but risks of moire on clothes give a perfect reason for asking models to pose undressed :).

Re: Another reason to switch to K5-II

Reminds me of going from my Olympus E3 to the E5, using the SHG high resolution lenses.

still feel the exitement.

Now the K5IIs brings fine resolution and detail together with good DR.

definitely my next camera

Not at all, I even tested it at f/13, f/16, f/18 and f/22. Only at f/22 diffraction is obvious, at least with this lens.

I did a series of test using all three K5, the K5 and K5-II produces the same and exact image quality.

Hi Gordon,

We spent the last half and hour of the session trying to shoot moire, but we just couldn't. I'm not saying it won't happen, but in most condition it's hard to induce.
