I haven't seen this yet, though I'll probably get one here pretty soon.  But I want to say that I've bought other Gary Friedman books, and I recommend them as highly as I possibly can.  Not only does Gary write with an extremely easy-to-read style, but his books always go well beyond describing how to use the camera -- he explains WHY you would use different settings, as well.  Which means that, in the end, you're learning a lot about "photography" itself while you read one of his books.

So, whether you're a novice or an experienced veteran, I think you will both enjoy reading Gary's RX100 book, and you'll learn more about the camera and how to get the best out of it.  Again, I recommend it as high as I possibly can, just like any of Gary's other books.

Re: The Complete Guide to Sony's Cybershot RX-100 by Gary L. Friedman

I just downloaded it and as you have mentioned Gary's books are most comprehensive and easy to digest books I have read. At $21.45 per download it's a bargain.... I've got a big photo order to print and after that I will jump into it start learning the in-outs for my new RX-100.... The books take over where the Sony Manual leaves off.....

I do know that Alex White is also bringing out a book on the RX-100...supposed to be out around end of October I think.  Could be worth seeing what that is like, as Alex's other books have been very good too..  Sold on Amazon I think..(or direct of course..)

Gary is a super nice guy and writes in a way you can easily understand. I read his ebook on the NEX system a while back. He's an expert with the Sony platform.

I just downloaded it too, and what's extra nice is that it's in two formats, .pdf and .mobi (for Amazon Kindle). He explicitly says that he wants buyers to be able to use it on all their devices. I find that very thoughtful!

My RX100 just arrived and I haven't begun reading the pdf manual that I downloaded from a link posted here.  In your opinion based on experience with the author's other books will this book also cover that material so I can work through one volume rather than two

My accessories (case, SD card and screen protector) are scheduled to be delivered today by UPS, and then I can get started learning how to use my beautiful new camera.

Wonderful Book / Re: The Complete Guide RX-100
3

I just dowloaded this book to my ipad yesterday. It's $21 and can be used on any number of devices for the one fee.

I have never read anything by this author before. He states in the book that it is more aimed toward advanced users and is more of a reference manual than his prior books.

He takes the time to tell you what his preferred settings are and includes pictures to illustrate how certain settings result in higher image quality than other settigs.

For example he gives you side-by-sides of the pixel-level type results of the five or so different low-light options you have, and expreses his clear winners.

He suggests how to set up the camera, and explains why.

For example he shows you how to set up with assisted focusing with color peaking to show what's in focus--I was really impressed at this.

There are options and complications for this camera that just blind-side me. The permutations and options seem nearly infinite, but he tells you his preferences with great explanations and insights. He has taken the trouble to learn the camera inside-out and figure out what works best, and is obvioulsy an expert photographer.

The recommendations are extremely sound and well-informed and the explanations are beautifully done, with light-hearted humor. The writing is detailed and highly informative but easy to digest.

For me with 20/20 hindsight the book is a "must have" to go along with the camera. I cannot imagine a better manual for the camera, with the addition of extremely valuable empirical results, pracitical insights and editorial opinions.

Like the camera, I give the book a "Gold" award.  ; )

Does the book provide any suggestions for Concert photos and/or video?  That's my primary use case and so I'm very much in coverage of this type of setting.

thanks much
