WB210 new firmware seems to have rescued it from the junkpile.

Sure it's an old camera now and few care but I grabbed mine at a good price a while back but despaired that I'd bought a pup due to its habit of overexposing. Of course you can change settings but a camera should work well when you quickly shoot automatic. Anyway after hardly having any use it dawned on me to check for new firmware, saying that I'm happy is an understatement as it now appears to be the camera I was looking for when purchased.

Old firmware. An overblown ruin that was all too common.

New firmware, much better. Now I get results from that good lens.

That is amazing, it looks excellent now.  I found out a similair thing the other day with my EX1, in fact I have gone back to an older FW for a similair reason, see my comment here:

In fact it might even be possible to use Smart AUTO mode on my camera now.

That is a remarkable comparison. It would seem you have a new old camera

An excellant example of the profound effect firmware has on digital cameras.

I just had a remarkable weekend, I took a few cameras on a little outing and the results of the WB210 had me ready to tuck in into a drawer, never to be used again, but it dawned upon me to look for a firmware update. I spent a heap of money on a Sony RX100 a while back because the WB210 didn't give me the results I wanted but things are different now. The WB210 has more zoom and fits easier in the pocket so now it can become my go everywhere camera.

It also suffers less from the shallow depth of field weakness that large sensor cameras have. I did a very casual thing about that on my weblog http://jimpicturetrail.blogspot.com.au/2012/10/rx100-and-wb210.html   Plenty of times you just want to get a quick snapshot, and a nice large sensor mated with a bright lens can be a hindrance. I feel sorry for my RX100, despite it being good, for me it's handicapped by Sony programming that I just can't take to.

NX210 has a 1.10 update as well.

I just updated mine (NX210), thanks for the heads up. I'm looking forward to shooting some new pictures and see how it does. I never had a problem with the blown highlights as you did with the NX210.

Have you noticed any other improvements?

He was talking about the WB210, not about the NX210, two totally different cams.

Another before and after.

Never mind the shadow of the jobber taking it. The WB210 now seems to consistently expose better than before.
