A camera for £60

Just thought I would post a few images from a camera I was asked to research for a close friend who dropped and damaged her Canon Ixus 970. She was looking for one of similar proportions, light and easy, and required nothing more than point at the subject and shoot (hopefully with a steady hand.)

Having used several of the cheap Samsung’s in the ES range, namely ES15 and ES20, and found their results very satisfying; I finally went with the ES90 where its ‘Smart Auto’ was capable of recognising a portrait, landscape, macro or whatever, without operator intervention, as this is how the camera will be used.

I was asked to ‘trial’ the camera before handing it over, and here are the results in ‘Smart Auto’ and although they have been enhanced where necessary, I have only used the software that I know she has on her own computer, namely ‘FastStone Image Viewer’: -

I was able to take advantage of the 14mp sensor for one or two extreme cropping.

Not a lot wrong with those shots. Just shows that you don't have to pay too much for a reasonably good camera.

LOL, that would be good enough for me, I do mainly daylight shooting and that would be fine.

And it looks quite nice and neat too. I’ve told my friend that if she does not like it in any way at all, I will happily keep it for myself as something to pop into the car glovebox. I’m hoping she does not like it
