.jpe versus .jpg - is there a difference

The dimage D7HI seems to save jpeg files with a .jpe extension. Does anyone know what if any is the difference between a .jpe jpeg and a .jpg jpeg file?

There's no difference whatsoever in practice. At least graphics programs handle them as equivalents. There are three extensions that all refer to the same file format: jpg (probably the most common), jpe, and jpeg.

The name. That's it. .jpg, .jpe and .jpeg in various case combinations (on real OS's, at least) all refer to JPEG files following the JPEG group standards.
