Samsung fanboy?

I can tell you: It's quite strange to open up my camera bag and almost all I see is Samsung gear...

I used to rely on Pentax DSLR's but I switched to Samsung NX over a year ago. My EX1 (TL500) also serves me very nice on the side. Luckily I saved all of my Pentax MF lenses, so I was very happy a few weeks ago to pick up a Samsung GX-10 DSLR (Pentax K10d clone) for a nice price.

Right now I have 4 Samsung cameras:

-EX1 (TL500)
-NX10
-NX200
-GX-10

NX lenses: 20mm, 30mm and 20-50mm and the EF20 flash unit

Pentax lenses: M28mm f/3.5, M50mm f/1.7, M100mm f/2.8 and M135mm f/3,5.

I also just bought the Pentax 18-55mm WR kit lens to have a waterproof setup with the GX-10

People generally don't associate the Samsung brand with quality photography gear, and right now I have 4 Samsungs in my 'serious photography' bag... My friends with their 'Canikons' really don't understand me.

I love surprises and all of my cameras really suit me well:

Great photos, and don't worry about what other people think, most people follow others like sheep.

Don't worry about being a Samsung fanboy.

Unless you own anything other than a Nikon D800 or a Canon 1D you are undoubtedly using a less capable camera but at least 99% of us are in that boat so we buy and use what we think is good enough.

We drive two reasonably new Dodge vehicles , a Journey and a Grand Caravan (my 4 th one) and we love em even if they aren't rated as high as a comparable Honda or Toyota. It don't bother us in the least.
YOU don't have to be a sheep either.

Added 1 min later: I didn't plagiarize Brians use of the word "sheep." We just happened to post about the same time.

I don't have a single Samsung photo item, but I frequently look at this forum because I often see excellent images posted. Yours look exceptionally good on my monitor.

IMHO, the differences between the various camera brands has grown pretty insignificant over the last few years -- I don't have any brand loyalty and try different types of cameras. I'm often surprised how a camera that hasn't had top reviews can be the most enjoyable to use.

Re: Samsung fanboy? Hi there Smarter, I wonder if you could help me please?

Smarter, could ypu please tell me, (if I'm not being to personal), what is a "good," price for a Samsung GX10? The reason that I'm asking is I have one that I may be selling. it is in great condition, even has it's original box. I also have the two kit lenses for it, and the Pentax f1.4 50mm prime lens, also the dfa f2.8 100mm macro lens that is labelled as a Schneider lens, as it was bought for the GX10. I'm only thinking about it, as the moment, as I'm considering a switch to another system, maybe the Sammy NX. But I really don't want all this extra stuff to carry around, if I go with the NX system, I know I can get adapters etc to fit my lenses to the NX, but I will stick to the dedicated NX lenses. I'd be grateful, it yourself, or anyone else, could give me an idea on pices here please. Thanks guys.

Hello Allan,

I bought my Samsung GX-10 at a private Ebay (Germany, Europe) auction last month. I paid € 179,- for It (= approx. $ 230).

Mine is in an absolute mint condition and has only 8.900 clicks on it (the shutter is rated for over 100.000 clicks). The 18-55mm Samsung/ Schneider kitlens was included, as well as the charger and original battery. No boxes, software or manual included.

Never fret. There's plenty of people who own plenty of Samsung. I have a GX-1L, bought way back when Sammy was still selling those things and it still serves me well as a backup telephoto (normally have a 500mm lens permanently on it) body to my Pentax gear. Also enjoy my EX1 very much. In addition I have two Sammy TVs, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note phones and a Galaxy Tab tablet. Samsung have sold me plenty, but I feel I've had my money's worth out of them.

My photo club friends - Canon and Nikon guys, with the occasional Sony shooter - tend to put on airs over the Sammy equipment, but then my pictures certainly match theirs from a technical pov, while my cash investment is way lower. I'm certainly not unhappy. If it works for you - and your pictures certainly indicates it does - don't fret it.

I'm certainly happy with my current camera gear. I'm not a brand fanboy at all. Every camera I buy is compared to other offers and possibilities. This is why I'm so surprised to see an all Samsung camera bag at this moment. It could have been lots of other brands mixed up all together.

Looks good.

If you tire of that 100 mm lens, btw, I'll be happy to buy it.

Thanks! After selling off my Pentax gear a year ago I'm very happy right now that I didn't sell my good old MF lenses. I'm pretty sure right now that I will keep those forever.

I do miss my DA 40mm f/2.8 Limited though and I would love to donate a kidney for a mint black FA 31mm Limited, a FA 43 Limited doesn't sound very bad ether...

So if you want the 100mm real bad there are some ways to get it before you have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
