Samyang 24 TS = pressure for a Nikon 24 PC-E upgrade?

From their press release I'm not sure if the now announced Samyang lens will enable independent tilt and shift axis rotation. But if so that's a nice advantage over the much pricier Nikon lens.

Tilt-Shift function

Tilt-Shift function in Samyang T-S 24mm 1:3.5 ED AS UMC allows for smooth and individual adjustment of the focus plane angle by + -8.5 and enables parallel shift of the optical axis by + -12 millimeters. To make Tilt-Shift function even more seamless, both the lens mount as well as Tilt-Shift section may be rotated on the optical axis. The Tilt-Shift section may be rotated left by 90 degrees (with 30 degree adjustment), while mount of the lens may be rotated both in left and right direction by 90 degrees, also with 30 degree adjustment.

Looks interesting. My reading of the dpreview and Nikon Rumors info is that, yes, there will be rotation between the tilt mechanism and the shift. So much superior to the Nikon PC-E mechanism.

I wonder what it will cost, whether it will have a Nikon chip, and when it will be available in the USA. I have their Rokinon (USA brand for Samyang) 85mm f/1.4 and it is a very good lens, especially for $325. Very sharp and contrasty on a D800E.

What use would any chip be? The nature of this type of lens is that it is totally manual therefore nothing to be gained, or none that I can see.

1. It would identify the lens in the EXIF data.
2. Would save you the effort of remembering to identify it in the non-CPU menu.

3. Matrix metering uses the information from the lens. Not sure if this would work, because focus would probably not have an electrical connection through the tilt/shift mechanisms. Still, #1 & 2 would make it worthwhile for me.

82mm filter size as same as Canon.

All PC-e is 77mm filter size, if Nikon updated it I think there is no 77mm filter anymore.

You may be lucky then as this picture shows CPU contacts and that would tend to indicate that they serve some purpose as they would be too expensive to put in just for looks

I would be able to work out that this lens took the picture just by looking at the picture

Maybe they are making a 24 tilt shift but the linked photo looks fake to me. Looks like a mash up of Nikons 14-24 front element grafted onto Nikons 24 PC-E.
Knobs etc including the opposed shift vs tilt controls is identical to Nikon.

Zoom in on the Samyang nameplate on the lensmount side...pretty bad Photoshop job.

There's no "maybe" about it. They are making a 24mm TS.

One slight inconvenience is that it will almost certainly not have an automatic aperture.

What's your opinion of the photos where they are aligned?

Speaking personally, I'm not good enough in PS to get that image starting from this one:

It's definitely the image of the PC-E 24 from the Nikon site from the lens mount until just to the left of the aperture ring. (lthey deleted the rubber ring to adjust aperture) then the left half of the lens is a photo of the Samyang 14mm 2.8.

Photokina Announcement?

I thought I read that the official announcement would be today (18th) at Photokina, but I can't find any news for it. I'm most curious about the price.

Anyone seen anything?
