Maxxum 5D "First Black Frame" Problem

Hello everyone,

So I'm new here and have a question about my Maxxum 5D. For years, it's had the dreaded "First Black Frame" issue that seems to plague a lot of Maxxum cameras (or so I've been told by a local camera shop specialist and the internet at large). Anyway, I kinda love my 5D and was wondering if this is an issue that is going to get worse over time or not.

At the moment, it's just kind of inconvenient. I have to take a first shot, which inevitably turns out black if I haven't used the camera for a while, then turn it off and back on again. After that, everything works fine.

But is there a chance that this could turn into something worse? Will my camera eventually stop working altogether? I've had it for about 3 years now (got it as a hand me down from my brother, who bought it when it was first released) and by the time I realized it was a problem, Sony no longer offered to fix it.

Thanks for any help guys!

Re: Maxxum 5D "First Black Frame" Problem

I have the same problem with my 7D for 3 years now and it is not going worst so far, sometimes no black frame often 1, the worst case is 6 in a row for now.

I have read here that the problem can't be repaired for free now but have not looked for so far.
Then I'll use my 7D until it dies but don't invest more in lenses.

Good luck, Michel

I think the cost is $283 bucks US,, Just can't remember the repair place the Minolta said to use when they sold out to Sony... Easy name too!!

I think the repair facility you're referring to is: Precision Camera Repair, Enfield, Connecticut. I hope they're still in business and have the parts required to fix the FFB problem.
