D600 being announced on the 13th?

I just got invited to a Nikon product launch event in Dubai on the 13th. They aren't telling me what they will be launching just the following:

"Nikon is delighted to invite you to a showcase event celebrating the launch of the latest additions to its DSLR range."

My guess is it's the D600. Will have my D800 with me so hopefully if we get hands on time with the camera I'll be taking some side by side shots.

Oh and I will be asking every single Nikon representative about the D800 left focus issue

Actually... I just realized, they're saying "latest additions". That sounds like more than one DSLR so there could be a D300s replacement as well?

I am curious to know in which position you are to get such invitations. Probably lots of journalists should get the same invitations too.

This invitation might confirm the rumors on nikonromors.com that there would be an introduction on the 13th.

Just 5 days in front of the photokina. I guess I'll put the Photokina in my agenda to go watch and see the new D600. It's just a 3 hours drive from here. And the D600 might be the right camera for me.

I'm a blogger based in the region which is why I got invited. Should be interesting since I've never been to a launch of this kind before.

I suspect the FX D800/D600 means the D300s was the last DX model in the Dxxx line.

My bet is the D7000 replacement will be announced, as the date puts it at the 2 year interval for this line.

Red-coloured accessory shoe cover for the red-coloured versions of the D3100 and D3200.

To get serious: Pricing of the D600 is what I'm curious about.

Depends on the D600 pricing: 1500 USD/Euro IMHO hints to no D400, 2000 USD/Euro hints to D400.

Could be. IMHO later in the year.

D600 AF...any better than the array in the

in the D7K ? If the AF is identical to the D7000, in form and function, I think I'l pass on it.

Even the af on my cheap pocket RX100 is ...seemingly more reliable.

Agree, the bad-mouthing of the Af on the D7k is essentially due to two factors:

1. Ignorance of the camera.
2. Ignorance of how the AF works.

Re: "Additions"?!

Could be D600 and some lenses as long as it isn#t another 18-xxx or 24-xx / xxx lens

a 300 F4 AFS VR, 80-400 AFS VR, 70-200 AFS VR F4 would be fine additions.

Re: D600 being announced on the 13th?

I'm more inclined to think the D600 is the new 'prosumer' model that replaces the D7000. It's basically a D7000 with EXPEED 3 and FX sensor anyway.

I still think there is a need for a DX pro camera and expect a D300s replacement.

This would makes sense. The D90 > D7000 > D600. The D90 was kinda out on it's own when it launched. Designed to straddle the gap between consumer and pro cameras. Nikon weren't big on FX anyway at that point. It's successor (D7000) also stuck with DX for cost reasons. Now it's replacement is due and we get the D600. At last, Nikon can put an FX sensor in it and hit the price point. FX is a natural choice for the 'prosumer' model if you can hit that all important price point.

Been thinking about this for a while. Makes no sense to bring out a DX D7000 replacement now.

So there you have it. 2 consumer DX, 1 'prosumer' FX and 3 pro 1xDX and 2xFX cameras. Sorry for the long post but wanted to get my thought processes in.

Re: D600 being announced on the 13th?

I could be wrong of course, and they do replace the D7000 and we get 2 'prosumer models and loose a pro DX option. This would also make sense as the D800 has a DX mode with enough pixels.

Either way, I really don't see replacements for both. Time to start saving and get ready to choose your weapon though people, this wave of updates is nearly at an end. Good time to buy a Nikon in the next six months.

Re: D600 being announced on the 13th?

Interesting, within just hours of one another Nikon will announce a highly anticipated new camera maybe called D600. Then Apple will reveal if the name will be iPhone 5 or the New iPhone. This is just having too much phone.
