Hi George, good to see you around

Hi:

I am such a big fan of taking family pictures and these are outstanding. Pictures that make your buttons pop off, because they are what being a parent is all about.

You and your wife must be very proud.

Well, I think there are few people better qualified to talk about the joys of family than you are...

Congratulations.

That's a really nice series and project. Wish my dad had done this, I'd really enjoy seeing me and my brothers together through time.

We started on a whim and just continued doing it.

I think the first time was the year when my daughter started elementary school and my son was in third grade. There may have been one previous year, but then it was not digital but on film.

Now my daughter is in fifth grade of highschool and my son inbetween highschool and university. Time sure flies.

There will come a time when your kids will cherish these photos.

BTW, your daughter looks alike Jodie Foster.

You are not the first to say that.
As a parent it is hard to see that kind of resemblance in one's own children.

A great project Roel:)

Great series of your kids. Your son didnt look to enthused in the middle there but it looks like he has come around again;) This is a really great tip for parents out there, start shooting!!

BTW; You should also have made him wear that shirt from one and two every year. By the color difference in those I guess that shirt would be white by now;) And probably a bit to small for him;) Thanks Roel, You are such a good inspiration on this forum and one of the reasons I still check in.

The priceless treasure here is intangible; your annual ritual without doubt has helped grow and cement a rich lifetime sibling relationship. Also, a father's faithful attention to this year upon year cannot help but suffuse the family with palpable awareness of love, and confidence in that love.

Roel, I think that even if all the pictures were to disappear tomorrow, their greatest rewards to your family would remain. It's a little bit of a paradox: the photographer's actions speak more -- and with powerful, different effect -- than his pictures.

You observe astutely, my dear Watson.

BTW; You should also have made him wear that shirt from one and two every year. By the color difference in those I guess that shirt would be white by now;) And probably a bit to small for him;)

That sweater has been his favourite sweater for a long time. It seemed to grow with him.

We did not notice he had worn it for the first day of school two years in a row, until we looked at the pictures.

Thanks Roel, You are such a good inspiration on this forum and one of the reasons I still check in.

OK, now you are making me blush.

Roel, I just now saw this -- what a wonderful idea and as Zin said, a real treasure! My dad used to take lots of pictures of us (also with varying degrees of cooperation and sometimes grudging "smiles") but nothing quite so organized and according to a tradition and pose like you've instituted. I think I'll try it with the grandkids!

Well, the pose was not a conscious choice.

I just ask them to stand together and then the hand-around-shoulder hug (still) comes natural to them...

I think I'll try it with the grandkids!

Good idea!

What a great and enduring way to use your photography! As we go out looking for things and people to photograph, we often forget to take pictures of the people (and animals) that matter most to us iin the end.

Will have to remember to tall my daughter and son-in-law to set up something like this, if and when they finish law school and have kids. The simple, well-set-up little bit of disciplined photography you led your family every year has yielded priceless results.

Fantastic series Roel...

... each is a great shot on their own, but in a series like this it adds another layer of context. Thanks for sharing Roel, it's shots like this that makes me look forward to having my own family one day.

Keep shooting,

Jules
