RX100: For Pocket,Belt or else?

One of the guys here:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1009&thread=42297761

thinks that 99% of RX100 users will NOT pocket their beloved RX100 (due to safety etc...)

I am quite shocked ,as I bought it to take it EVERYWHERE with me IN THE POCKET!
( with a strap, screen protector and Flipback grip attached ;))

What about you guys? Pocket or Belt or else?

Re: RX100: For Pocket,Belt or else?

I see it as a camera that is pocketable, beltable, or whatever-able as the person chooses it to be. It is small enough to allow for that flexibility. And if I carry my sling bag and needed to carry a third camera, it would also fit in a spot where I otherwise carry an external flash, opening up room for yet another lens (I generally carry four in sling bag with two of them mounted on two cameras).

As I don't carry a "man bag" I use my pockets all the time. Count me in the 1%.

pocket of course, that was the main reason I got this cam, I have DSLRS and NEX camera already, if not for pocketability, there are other ways to spend $650....like a new lens, or a Sony NEX5n....or one of m43 cameras..etc..

My RX100 goes in my pocket in a small pouch.

Shirt pocket, with a long neck strap (like the Sony wrist strap but much longer) around my neck that is attached to the camera. I am looking for a small belt pack for the times I am not wearing a shirt that has a pocket.

I got it because it is the best camera you can get that fits into your pocket. If pocket didn't matter, I'd use my DSLR. The RX100 is the camera that is always with me, because it goes in my pocket.

soft sunglass case

'everything in', fits pocket perfectly, a great tapered shape

'everything out', also fits 2nd battery, extra card, lens cloth,

I was going to get a belt case, but, why???

Pocket yes

That guy was just trying to stir up trouble by being provocative. Pay no attention. As to your question, I will pocket my RX100 for sure. That's why I'm buying one. When I need the maximum focal range I will carry my A65 with 70-300 and the RX100 to cover an effective range of 28-450.

Carry $650 in a pocket?

That's a lot of cash to carry around. Cash or cards might get stolen, but will at least survive a fall or endure pocket lint. Paper money and credit cards usually survive immersion too. A camera, on the other hand, is at risk for all of the above.

"S" happens.

World class athletes fall, stumble, or goof up. Why not camera fans? Their precious RX100 has no crash helmet, seat belt, weather sealing, rubber grip, dust protection, or air bag. Its hand strap just might hook onto a key chain in the pocket and, when quick-drawn Dodge City style, slip out of control.

Well, in 12 months or less, the laws of Newton or Murphy will take their toll. Of course, by that time, there will be oodles of people anxious to pay another $650 to upgrade to the RX200, so what will they care about last year's obsession? It's only money. Spend, spend, spend.

If you're going to enjoy photography you will have to carry your camera around. I used to carry my cell phone in a belt pouch but it fell off on occasion. Once I didn't notice it fell and I never saw it again. Now I keep it in my pants pocket and it NEVER, repeat, NEVER falls out. I can't think of a safer place. I keep my wallet in my pocket and it never falls out.
