Both taken at f8, 1/80th, 145mm, 100 ISO

The D200 is still a great camera and that's why I kept mine!

Thanks John, the D200 combined with the AF80-200 f2.8 is heavy, but very rewarding.

It’s beautiful frames John and full of the roses character. The mildly softer look as you usually go for or is it a motion blur - or both?

i agree.. soft/backfocus or a combination of both

especially since both D200 and 80-200mm f2.8 can give super sharp images even at 2.8.

so at f8, your images are way too soft, and definitely backfocused. unless to focused on the buds behind the flower?

As you guessed I was trying to achieve a balance between sharpness and slight blur, as you said "The mildly softer look" slightly abstract.

Yes I wanted the image to get sharper in the middle and back, to convey depth.

Here is an image with the opposite effect.

Fear not! my D200 and 80-200mm f2.8 can still give sharp images:
