How many new member to this forum because of RX100?

I am a regular DSLR user (Sony A900 and Canon 7D) and have/had quite a few good P&S cameras (F10, S90, G12, XZ-1). I never considered Sony Cyber-shot as serious P&S, until RX100 came out of nowhere. Gosh what a camera! I have had it for over a week now and still amazed by its output and overall usability. I am sure I am not the only one here. Looks like RX100 attracted many new users to Sony, and it has the potential to act like the original iPod to bring many people to Apple world, and turn around Apple's fortune. So count me in as one happy Cyber-shot user.

I'm right with you

A canon DSLR shooter for 10+ years and m4/3 shooter for the last 2. I ordered the rx100 today because of all the rave reviews. We shall see.

Re: How many new member to this forum because of RX100?

I am one! I never owned a Sony camera before. My first cameras were Olympus (C4040, C5050, C7000), then I got a Fuji f31fd, then a Panasonic LX-3, then an Olympus XZ-1--and now the Sony RX100.

It sounds almost comical--I have just migrated from one forum to another!

Yep, Pentax (mostly) user here.

I never considered a Sony P&S before. They were more often than not lacking substance. The RX100 is a game changer that caught everyone flat footed.

Re: Yep, Pentax (mostly) user here.

First SLR: Zenith
Second SLR: Pentax Spotmatic
Then Canon film SLRs and L Lenses
For the last 8 years: several Canon DSLRs and tons of L and Zeiss lenses
Since 2 weeks ago: sold all Canon stuff and bought RX100.
I'm very happy.
The Sony is with me at all times. I feel liberated.

I knew this was coming. It came.

I'm still in awe at this little thing. I'm not selling my OMD or NEX yet because of the shallow DOF & primes, but this is the perfect holiday camera. Holiday pictures will enter a new dimension.

Re: How many new member to this forum because of RX100?

Posted a little when I had a HX100v, but really that was just another superzoom and really not a very unique product. Nice enough camera, but nothing the other guys didn't have with the fz150, hs30, sx40 etc

RX100 though is really a unique product that actually is worth discussing

Me too..first Sony but not the first pocket camera with a Zeiss lens!

My first camera was a late 1950s Zeiss Ikon Contessa range finder with a 2.8 Tessar lens...

So, when I heard about the RX100 it was like deja vu...I WANT ONE!

on forum because of rx100

I have been waiting 7 long years for this camera since I got Sony's last great 'large sensor/fixed lens' camera, in 2005, the R1.

Happy days are here again.

ooc for R1 was instantly awesome, this is going to take some learning to get similar results by me.

Re: How many new member to this forum because of RX100?

I've been a long time Canon user. I was tempted by the S90> S95> S100. I kept putting it off as I was never really pleased with the quality of image from the smaller sensors. The RX100 reviews finally got me to finally make a decision. $650 was more than I really wanted to pay but I found I just did not want to cart my 40D and lenses around.

I am more than happy with the RX100.

I have been an Olympus XZ1 owner but have always been unhappy with all the noise at iso 400 and above. I too am ready to "jump ship" to the RX100.

For those former owners of the XZ1, how would you compare the two cameras?

Re: How many new member to this forum because of RX100?

I bought a used XZ1 (in mint condition) on eBay this past February. It is superb for supermacros, I love the colors of the images, and I got some shots with it that I was quite happy with (at up to 400 ISO, as you said).

We are comparing two excellent cameras in terms of IQ.

The dynamic range of the RX100 is far better, I think, and getting to the XZ1 equivalent of High Dynamic Range (Gradation) took various steps buried deep within the menu (finally I set auto gradation as the one custom setting option).

The RX100 has fabulous image quality, at very high ISO's as well as lower ones, but beyond that it has amazing features and functionality: in camera Auto-HDR, Dynamic Range Optimizer (several settings of each to choose from), bounce flash, in camera sweep panorama that actually works, buttons that make choosing from various options totally accessible (flash compensation, focus mode, metering mode, EV compensation, and on and on)--and it is smaller and easier to pocket.

As I clicked on "Complete Purchase" in Amazon I was telling myself I was nuts--but I have had no regrets. I have only had the camera for a week now, but I love it more and more.

I am about to put my XZ1 for sale on eBay....

My first Sony since 717

Been using original digital rebal, then 20d, a 12 year old mini Dv camera and a handful of point and shoot cameras.

I'm not throwing my 20d away, I have good selection of ultra wide lens and good is telephoto but most of the time will just have the RX 100.

Re: My first Sony since 717

Count me as a newcomer to this forum too as I just ordered an RX100. My main camera is a Nikon D7000 but I like to have a P&S camera for the times I don't want to carry a large DSLR (very common amongst photographers). I have been using a Panasonic LX3 and was eagerly awaiting the LX7 but was a bit underwhelmed once the announcement was made. The RX100 seems like the revolutionary jump that the LX3 was several years ago. My only concern with the RX100 will be the loss of the 24mm wide angle that my LX3 has. I had looked into micro 4/3 cameras too but couldn't find the fast compact zoom lens that suited my needs.

I'm looking forward to all the advise and information about the RX100 that's shared on this forum!

Re: Yep, Pentax (mostly) user here.

I resent that comment (I have flat feet). Also, I'm a newcomer contemplating the rx100. As far as I was concerned, this place was the forum of misfit cameras before the rx100
