canon SX1 IS vs. SX40

I'm a DSLR user, but for an upcoming vacation, I'm bringing my old SX1, mainly for it's compact size, and video capabilities. The images from the CMOS are a little worse than some of the other CCD SX models, but the fast response, great IS, great 1080P video, and the fact that I can shoot continuously at 4 frames per second make it very attractive.

I was comparing it to the newer SX40, also a CMOS sensor, and it doesn't look any better then the SX1 in terms of specs. same video spec, slower continuous shooting. Has anyone compared the two? Is there any image or video quality difference?

I don't have the SX1, but I do have the SX40, and since no one has responded to your specific questions re: video etc., I can tell you that I think the SX40 is great fun, and has amazing IQ even at longest tele. Here are a couple of small galleries of shots with the SX40 at various focal lengths and different times of day, shot both indoors and outside. Maybe this will help ?

I also don't have experience with the sx1 but do with s5is and now sx40hs. Rather than say that I'm happy with the sx40hs you can be the judge ( I'm not making any claims . . . ) :

Its a long link - hope it works ! If not - it might just get you to page 1 - pages 2 and 3 have more detail and indoor fotos .

fwiw the fotos in this gallery are mostly all iso 100 and the indoor photos are all hand held ( although I most likely propped myself against a door frame or such to hold still ) at speeds to 1/2 sec . I don't usually try action shots with P+S' but with some planning ( and luck ? ) can get single shots of action scenes ( say Blue Angels over SF Bay - think that was from a moving boat with the s5is tho )
