RX100 - best instruction book out there

Hi Everyone

I'm waiting for the delivery of my RX100 - I'm moving up from my old and trusted Nikon S8100 to a world where there are more settings and much better manual control.

Which brings me to my question - many cameras out there have step by step books (like D7000 for Dummies or Photographer's Guide to the Leica D-Lux 5, etc.). What would be a good book for the RX100? I understand that it's really new, but hope that there is a good getting started book for making the most out of such a power house.

I just think there has to be better way than trial and error.

Here is a link to the official Sony handbook for the RX100... the actual manual, but a bit more user friendly then some past Sony user guides have been. You might find it useful until someone comes out with the first 'RX100 Tips and tricks' or 'the Essential RX100 handbook'...

http://www.sony.com.hk/svcfiles/faq/DI/User_Guide_Eng/DSC-RX100/contents/contentslist.html

Also don't ignore the in-camera help guide and shooting tips- it is designed to help you learn more about what the camera can do, and gives essential tips about photography in general.

Here is a newer link...use the SEARCH function...it works very well...

http://esupport.sony.com/docs/dvimag/DSCRX100_guide/en/index.html

It is very good for camera features and settings but lacks much hand-holding...

Here is the official Sony USA site to download the user manuals for the Sony RX100 :

Good luck.

I downloaded this link to my PC recently. It's the best we have for now. But does anyone here know how to turn the entire html manual into one continuous document that can be read top to bottom (ideally while still keeping the links so you could also click on something to go directly to it if you want to.)

I tried a freeware html-to-pdf converter but it only converted one sub-topic to one pdf file rather than converting the entire manual to one pdf file.

Ask Gary Friedman

Gary Friedman has written many excellent books including his latest Sony A77&A65, and NEX (3 to 7) camera books, you may ask him if he thinks about publishing one about RX100V. Very probably he does...

"The Sony RX100 Power User Guide" might be of interest:

I'm pleased with the kindle version of

White, Alexander

... as it is really easy to poke in and out of it on my Ipad.

Re: RX100 - best instruction book out there

Three choices are available in the Apple store in ePub format for the iPad.  I've downloaded samples of all three and so far haven't got excited about any of them.

The three are those by:

Gary Friedman

Alexander White

And the Sony RX100 Power User Guide.  German or Austrian sounding name for Author, but don't have it in front of me.

I would be very interested in peoples thoughts on these three guides.  All have been mentioned in this thread, at least once.

Re: RX100 - best instruction book out there

I have just received my RX-100, and purchased both books mentioned as I was waiting for the camera.  I like them both.  The book by White works better for me as a reference guide, particularly since I can easily click to a section (I have the Kindle version).  I purchased the downloadable PDF of Friedman's book, and am reading it on the iPad using iBooks.  I like Friedman's writing style and the explanations he goes into on all the features.  I would choose Gary Friedman's book if I had to pick one, but either one of them will be helpful.
