wb850f firmware July 5 ver.206276

Latest firmware loaded successfully and gps firmware as well. But gps update ended with a factory reset. I had to delete the batch txt file to allow the camera power up without repeating the gps update. Now, the camera works OK. I would like to know if anyone has a simular outcome.

Yes,
For update direct by card :
Before update ,delete "partialImage.o.map (no util)
After total update (Firmware + GPS) ,delete "GPS-FW" and "wb850F_adj.txt.

Re: wb850f firmware July 5 ver.206276

I updated the firmware with Intelli-studio and get a factory reset message after the gps updates then power shuts down....this keeps happening, how do I delete the batch txt file since I didn't upgrade by SD card?

Re: wb850f firmware July 5 ver.206276

The battery drain issues were fixed back in June in the V205256 firmware update. I've had no issues with the camera since that update. The wi-fi works OK for me, but I don't really need it. Ditto for the GPS. The compass function is fun but hey, its a camera. As long as the camera functions work well then I am happy.

I like it. It beats my Panasonic ZS5 by a clear margin. The long zoom works fine, the image stabilization works well. Video works well. HDR, backlight, rapid exposures (up to 10 frames per second) all function well. For fun, you have the insane high speed video (though small size) modes if you like to capture 240 or 480 frames per second and play back at 30 fps for super slow motion. Just make sure you get a good Class 10 SD or SDHC card so that it can keep up (I recommend 16 Gbyte. They're pretty cheap nowadays.).

The camera feels really solid, you could do real damage in a bar fight with it.

Re: wb850f firmware July 9th ver.206276 - partialImage.o.map MAP file

I updated the firmware of my Samsung WB850 a few minutes ago by following the Samsung 'Firmware Upgrade Guide by Manual' instruction sheet (via SD card) to the letter. All seemed to have gone well but I noticed that after the upgrade, the partialImage.o.map MAP file, 35,597KB was still left on my SD card. The other files were all deleted during the firmware update. This partialImage.o.map MAP file, 35,597KB isn't even mentioned on the Samsung instruction sheet. My upgraded firmware is dated July 9th not July 5th but the version is still 206276.

What should I do with this partialImage.o.map MAP file, 35,597KB file on my SD card? Do I leave it there or do I delete it now. Should I have deleted it before I upgraded the firmware?

How can I check the firmware version on my camera is indeed ver.206276?

Thank you.

Regards

JimmyR

PS The SD card at present has 3x folders - DATATBASE, DCIM, MISC plus the partialImage.o.map MAP file, 35,597KB file on its own.

Before or after update ,delete "partialImage.o.map (no util)
No verification version Firmware, just when update

Re: wb850f firmware July 9th ver.206276 - partialImage.o.map MAP file

Thank you camomille. I should have pointed out that the camera was brand new yesterday and so was the 16GB SanDisk SDHC card. I formatted the brand new card in the camera before doing the firmware upgrade.

I can't see the "(no util)" part of "partialImage.o.map (no util)" on my memory card only "partialImage.o.map" MAP file which is 35,597KB in size. Just to be absoloutely certain, should I still delete this file from my memory card even if I don't have the "(no util)" part? What does the (no util) part actually mean and why don't Samsung bother to mention anything about deleting this paricular file in their "Firmware Upgrade by manual" PDF? What is a .bin file, what does it do or what did it do?

Sorry to be so dumb but just want to be certain I'm deleting the correct thing.

Thank you.

How is the average user going to cope with this. You are not dumb as you should not even have to think of these things for a compact camera. I find it extraordinary that this is going on. I think Samsung need to put a warning on the box that it is only suitable for technology geeks. I presume you have to do these firmware updates to stop the battery draining.

partialImage.o.map (objet file) Samsung added by mistake.
Delete on the memory card.

Re: wb850f firmware July 9th ver.206276 - partialImage.o.map MAP file

Excellent, thank you camomille. Now deleted from the SD card!

I'd heard tales of failed firmware upgrades and didn't want to make my brand new camera inoperative. It's always a bit worrying when one follows the manufacturer's instructions to the letter and something doesn't quite ring true.

I must read the manual now because it seems to do some things differently from my WB650.
