***** Mini Challenge # 270 -- HOLIDAY! *****

The word "Holiday" has different meanings in different parts of world. Here, where I live, it usually refers to a paid day off work, often with celebrations occuring throughout the community. I know in other areas, it refers to any time off work, any type of traveling or as we call it in the states, a vacation. One of my favorite holidays for photography is coming up this week, Independence Day or as commonly called, the 4th of July. I love shooting fireworks!

Interpret the word "holiday" as it suits you and show me your "holiday" shots!

Rules as usual:

1) Enter up to 3 photos from any camera taken at any time. Let us know about equipment, settings and processing if you like.

2) The winner chooses the next mini challenge theme and selects the next winner and so on...

3) Please post your entries by replying to this original post rather than under someone else’s post - and change the subject line to the title(s) of your images or something like that to separate your picture posts from comments that someone may make about your post.

4) As usual, exhibition entries are encouraged, if you have interesting images to share beyond your three entries, or should you feel you are not able to host the challenge in the event that you win.

5) All entrants should check the results of the challenge and be ready to jump in with the next competition if they are the winner.

6) PLEASE feel free to make as many comments as possible. This adds to the fun and keeps people coming back. The challenge starts now and closes for entries and exhibits on Sunday, July 7th, at 8 PM CST.

Some examples follow and keep them coming!

Happy "Holidays"!

Berlin (exb)

Last year by wife and I made a little vacation trip to Berlin and of course I took lots of photos with my trusty old R1. This one is one of my favorites and I get a smile every time I look at it. This is the old Check Point Charlie that used to divide the East and West. It is now maintained as a tourist attraction. That's my better half with the guards.

P.S. Unbelievable but true, the one guy is an American student going to a Berlin university and is from a town very near my hometown in the States. Small world!

Bet McDo's was only a small home based outfit when
the original Checkpoint was operational.

Nice shot of an interesting area.

Thanks for starting us off, Colleen!

Three very cool Holiday pictures! I especially like the shots of the pumpkins. I love halloween time. I like the arrangement and the different qualities of light from each one. Clever presidents day shot! Funny how you can see so much more detail in a closeup shot than you notice in every day life.

Great shot, Ivan! Would not have thought that you would fit in that tiny Christmas ornament! I always like to see pictures of the people we talk here!

Re: Berlin (exb)

Were you in Germany when the wall was up? During my recent trip to Rapid City, South Dakota, at their memorial park, they have a section of the Berlin Wall displayed.

Karen ....

thanks for looking and your shot of a piece of the wall.

Yes, I was here when the wall was up. At that time I was not allowed to go to Berlin (West or East) because of my knowledge and job.

When one travels in the old eastern part of Berlin it is pretty obvious which is which even today.

Thanks for the rain (exb)

One of the memorable shots from a vacation the daughter and I made in 1999 to the US Southwest. This is a life sized bronze in Wickenburg, Arizona. It impresssed me then and it still does.

It is nice, to make entries into mini challenges.
There is no real danger (chance) to win it anyway, or is there?

But it is nice, when it tuns out: there is sometimes the chance to win a mini.

And it is nice to host the next mini challenge, albeit it will cost some time and effort.

And it is nice to watch the contributions and the comments coming in, to comment the entries and to read the other comments, and at the end to close and to evaluate the MC.

And it is also nice when it is over and one gets relaxed...

Greetings,

Karen, you have so many beautiful images. I have always wanted to visit Mount Rushmore. That must have been a sight to behold.

Exhibits from Trafford.

Some holiday memories
Waiting for the train announcements

Baby and Mum on the way to the French Alps.

Having fun with the new baby.

"I can do it!"

Down to the sea at Biarritz.

On the way into London from the airport,
The Queen Mother's funeral cortege was going
out to Windsor Castle

Lawn bowls in Sussex.

'Nuff said.

Big grins by the Thames.

Saints and kings on horseback.

Authentic French Poodle

To each their own!

Re: Exhibits from Trafford.

thanks for the exhibits! Some of these gave me a chuckle: I like the "elderly people" sign - somehow seems not quite politically correct! and the T-shirt boy.

For the funeral procession, why are the people's backs to the road? (Makes an interesting shot!)

Re: Thanks for the rain (exb)

Hope his prayer works, we could use some rain here! I saw this statue I think when I was there in April - is it by the cowboy museum? (I looked through my pics, and it wasn't there, my memory is only as good as the photos I take, lately!)

The funeral cortege was coming in the opposite direction,
the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides were facing the road to
the right. UK traffic drives on the left.

Re: Thanks for the rain (exb)

Karen, when we were there it was late afternoon and we did not have much time. Now that I put my thinking cap on, I do recall a museum but we did not visit it. I wish we had done so.
