World Naked Bike Ride (3 pics)

Paul20's lovely offerings in his Post London Jubilee thread included one of participants in this curious world wide event advocating use of less fossil fuels

Houston's raison d'etre may be fossil fuel production, but this didn't keep some from participating
here are some taken with the M9 & 24 Summilux
getting ready

Olivia, ukulele player & singer extraordinaire as well as organizer of the Houston ride in cycling attire

finishing touches

I don't have a bike & the organizers didn't have a route available so I couldn't get any from the ride itself, which I understand was so successful that they repeated it the following week

much larger versions of these along with shooting information & some others can be found here -------> http://www.pbase.com/artichoke/clubbing&page=9

hope you like

Why is it only people you don't ever want to see naked participate in these 'naked' type of events?

now I have to go poke my eyes out with a fork!

IMHO a closer shot of Olivia with other participants surrounding her might have been more interesting.

I like the second image, but it seems a bit out of focus or lacks sharpness due to camera shake during exposure. Also, the color seems "over the top", especially the reds and green.

finishing touches

Sorry, I just don't get a message from image #3, other than the subject in the center is nearly bare. IMHO mingling amongst the crowd more might have produced many more interesting shots. Thanks for sharing your images with us and giving us the opportunity to critique them. :)))

Best Regards,

sorry to disappoint you

the title comes from the name of the event

I suspect more clothes were shed during the actual ride, which I could not follow, sad to report

don't really know that I would have preferred seeing less clothing for most of these

Olivia is a very talented lady, a true artist
I love her singing

here is one of her from an arts festival a few years ago (not taken with a Leica)

the larger version of which can be found here --------> http://www.pbase.com/artichoke/clubbing&page=30

she is an artistic polymath & very socially conscious
I believe she organized this event in Houston

thanks for your pithy critique, Leo

unfortunately I think you confused Olivia, who was the subject of the second photograph, with the first tableau photograph's semi-naked lady

she was coming out of the door & I caught her using a relatively slow shutter speed and panned to give a sense of movement, which I love in photographs
her face is in fairly good focus (in the original file I can make out eyelashes)

I think the panning worked in this one, to help isolate her though she does tend to stand out a bit as "over the top" is her thing

I appreciate your comment about mingling & perhaps you think me timid , but had I gotten in any closer, suds from the gentleman to the right's beer may have splashed on my camera

I very much like lots of points of interest in my photographs, though I admit I don't always have a "message" to offer

producing something which when seen cannot be unseen seems a reasonable purpose for a photograph

Fascinating

Art,

I can imagine the fascinating tableaux this event presented to a photographer through your images. Interesting choice of the 24mm FL. I've been attempting to shoot with a 21mm of late and only beginning to recognize the challenges of shooting at FLs in that range compositionally.

I like the color images in this set you presented.

Cheers,
-raaj

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

So now I understand what all the nakedness was all about.....

The first two shots would be good candidates for your M9 colours thread, very vibrant.

The second shot is my favourite i rather like the garish colours they compliment the iced breasts! Well timed.

The third could be interesting but I think lacks a focal point, unless you consider it the bare ass!

All the best,

Paul
