D800, i have 2 white dots and 1 black dots on sensor

I noticed 2 white dots and 1 black dots on sensor when shooting above f/5.6, are these dead pixels or dust?
should i return them?

I would take those three pixels into a service center for repair. You don;t need the whole camera. Just those pixels.

Seriously, clean your sensor and then decide.

If it only happens above f5.6 then they are not defective pixels.

thanks for the prompt response but i just got this camera, there are already dust on them, so i just use the air blower to no avail, they do show up only at larger aperture like dusts spots but this is a new camera.

Please post sample photo with EXIF intact so we can see what you're talking about.

Assuming what you are seeing is dust, this is a fact of life with an interchangeable lens camera.
Do a search on sensor cleaning.

sorry about the crude photo, you can see the 3 white dots: near left top cross, left bottom cross, middle bottom cross. Black dot between left middle cross and dead center cross. I shot it over 24mb and decrease to 225KB to upload, I'm art director, photography is my hobby. D800 is my first FX body.

100% DUST.

I had the same problem. I too was skeptical. Got the sensor cleaned. GONE.

Oil or something like that on the sensor. Can probably not be removed with a blower. I brought my camera back to the shop and they spent five minutes with some magic product and the camera. Now the sensor is spotless.

Looks like oil spots to me. This has been discussed a few times. As the mirror slaps down the first few times it seems to let go of some oil and spatter onto the sensor. Ideally this shouldn't happen, but many D800s have had this. A sensor clean is needed...that's all.
