Canon PowerShot ELPH 300HS or SX240 HS

I currently have the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300HS and I am thinking of selling for something that has more reach and more control over the images "shutter and aperture priority, AEL etc..". Also though, I'm wondering about IQ with the Canon PowerShot SX240 HS. Will it be an improvement over the Canon PowerShot ELPH 300HS? Also if it does not improve, what is better for around the same $$? thanks

I cannot find a camera called the sx240 on amazon or the net. Did you mean the sx260?

It's pretty much like this:
sx260: maybe a tiny bit better picture , mostly more zoom range.

s100: somewhat better low light performance, somewhat better pictures (though these are all by small margins)
500hs: cheaper, maybe better pictures, slightly better low light performance

In the Canon lineup, if your top priority is more optical zoom, the sx260 (or it's predessor the sx230) are your best bet.

Paul it sounds like you give the PowerShot ELPH 300HS a pretty good rating. I would like a camera that shows definite improvement over the ELPH 300HS. I thought that the sx240/260 would be alot better. I suppose you can only expect so much from such a small sensor.

I would recommend comparing images with I-R's Comparometer;

http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

Compare with the SX260, since the SX240 is the same camera but without GPS. To my eyes, the SX260/SX240 image is better than that of the 300HS, but you need to make your own evaluation. I see a noticeable difference beginning at ISO 400. You also gain all the manual controls of the SX series.
