K-30 Q&A

Well, it is official. The K-30 has officially been announced. I thought I would make myself available for the next hour or so (starting at 4:00PM MST) to answer any questions on this exciting new camera.

Re: K-30 Q&A

Hi John thanks
1 Is the prism as clear as conventional pentax eg K5
2 Is it using the K5's shutter
3 Is it the new "Entry Level DSLR" - always hated that term BTW

Great job with camera!

Re: shutter sound

I'm impressed that you gave the K-30 so many professional features... still...

Does it have the very quiet shutter of the K-5 or the very noisy shutter of the K-x ?

We'll be including that in our preview video shortly.

Absolutely. It is a glass pentaprism finder so just as bright and clear.

2 Is it using the K5's shutter

Yes, the same shutter unit.

We like to refer to it as a mid-level camera, though it has many advanced features, but a very attractive price.

Great job with camera!

That's kind of you, John... Interested to know more about the autofocus improvements

Re: shutter sound

I don't have all three cameras in front of me, but it is between the K-r and K-5. I think the K-5 Magnesium Alloy body helps dampen the shutter sound somewhat.

Re: K-30 Q&A

I wish I had a question. Just wanted to say that the K-30 looks like a winner!

Since I have the K-5, I'm looking for its successor, but I've already recommended my K-x carrying friends the K-30. Maybe they'll upgrade soon.

Cheers!

6 fps?

Hi,

The press release mentions 6 fps (in jpeg mode). What is the fps in RAW mode?

Thank you,
Radu

Re: K-30 Q&A

Hello,

Are the lenses that come with the kit WR?

How does the video compare with the K-01?

Re: K-30 Q&A

Great camera for Pentax! My K20D can take a break (its heading to 60,000 care free shutter counts). I see it as a perfect mate for K20D owners like me holding out for whatever reasons. This camera clicks all boxes e.g. high ISO, fast, WR, HD,... .

No questions...

Thanks.

The final firmware is still not complete so this spec has not been released.

Re: K-30 Q&A

The K-30 will come in various configurations, some with WR lenses and some without. The video capabilities should be on par with the K-01 as it is the same sensor and image processor.

Re: K-30 Q&A

You should have another 40,000 shutter releases left in your K20, but don't let that stop you from getting a K-30.
