SYNC signal is a kind of "shutter pressed" signal, instead of Flash Fire.

Does this mean that "rear curtain" mode is not available?

Flash mode is only available if HVLF7S is on.
If sony flash is off, any set about flash is disabled.
Later will try to test different modes and see what happen to post here.

I've just finished soldering (damn, it's hard:) and can confirm that rear curtain sync works.

Very good!!! another adventurer in the forum!!

Please post some photos of your mod, to encourage others.
I´m still waiting to arrive the stuff for Mod V2!

You say rear curtain works, but this is with F7S lift up? what about F7S in down position (off)??

It works either way. Like you see, I've removed lamp and took front route:

Some test shots with off camera flash.

After receive some stuff I purchase online from other countries, I can start to do some test shots with off camera flash.

Also after look the Zack Arias workshop videos, and learn more about photography.

Flash is my Yongnuo YN560II, with MiniSoftBox 20x30cm, on my Monopod stuck to my tripod since I don´t have a light stand yet, so just improvise one.

I still using PC sync cable since my RF603 couple didn't arrive yet (come on...hurry up!!)

I´m glad with the results, and also verify that Front Curtain, and Rear Curtain setting works perfect, of course need the HVLF7S turned ON to enable the feature. I just tape the lamp with a black tape.

By luck, I have my daughter as a dedicated full time model !!

Dump Question (and then also in my bad english),

for what purpose is the 15k resistor? and where do you get the ground for the pc cord?

great mod, i like it

Hi Tamaki.

The couple of resistors 5K and 15K are to control the amount of current used to trigger the transistor base. it is a basic electronic configuration.

Actually the 15K value should be a little higher, like 47K, to reduce the current drain to ground.

All the GND is same in all the circuit, and I took from F7S flex PCB, as you can see on pictures.

Check the picture just under the circuit, and you will see a cable sold near IC chip, that area is Ground. I follow the signal from connector to the circuit area.

That ground is OK to PC Sync Port, since just need to make a short-circuit between the two ends of the connector.

Usually inside the external flash unit you will have an optoisolator, or a transistor input then is ok to trigger by ground.

I hope in a couple of days receive my YN603 WLL triggers and a hot shoe, then I will build the V2 of this mod. For sure will post it later step by step.

Thanks for your answer. I was at a loss.

The 15k (47) is just to build up a voltage divider.

All stuff arrive!! and V2 already made and working!!!

All components arrive yesterday, and today I spent the whole day working on V2.
Finally I finish it and it is 100% working with all planned mod's .

Later will do a new post with all the details.

Re: All stuff arrive!! and V2 already made and working!!!

Hi friend !

I can't find C8050 transistor in my country, can I use another NPN transistor like 2SC1815 or 2N2222 to build this circuit ?

Re: All stuff arrive!! and V2 already made and working!!!

Sure!, all of them are basically similar replacements on this low voltage application.

Please post your pics later to see the final product.

I'm finish
Use Use CNC to make M2.5 screw and PCB
Laser cutter to cut cover case

Simply AMAZING!
You did a very good job!!!

Just a question, the adapter installed, at the shoe zone, touch the lens barrel?

If yes, I think this will help on the flash stability and distribute the flash weight away of the Sony port to save it.

You can see the original Sony flash, have some small rubber to stop at the barrel.
Consider this issue in your design!

And very well you have the shoe and the external sync connection.

This is a totally brother of Shadow and MCA-10 shoe!
