A900 flowers with distagon

simple test to show how the A900 with distagon 25mm 2,8 (non Sony) renders the colors .

i bought the lens mainly for landscape but close ups are also very nice .

Fine details, subtle colors - basis for some fine art...

Thanks for sharing, Guido!

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

dank je wel Bart .

as you see the A900 is still a capable camera if used with nice optics and good software . I used here Raw Photo processor 64 .

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

I openned this in work, with bog-standard IE8 on a 'basic' Dell VDU.
It appeared 'flat', 'soft' and uninteresting. Too 'subtle'...
I opened at home on decent kit and wow! what a difference.
Beautiful image

thanks lesp,

this is the problem when showing photo's on the internet : what kind of browser and hardware are people using ? so you can see clearly how better your computer system is .

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

Hello,

I assume you used an M42 Distagon? If so, which adapter do you use? Also, did you change focusing screens in the A900?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

Hello,

As far as I am concerned, the setting, background and color are not interesting. As far as the colors are concerned, use sRGB as color space (for internet preview). It looks like no color space was selected properly when saved!

Hope this helps,

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

It has a yellow-orange cast on a calibrated monitor and is to soft.

On a uncalibrated display, often to hard in contrast and to cool in color, it wil display better.

Check the colors (white, gray or black) with the color pipet in PS, and save for the web with sRGB color profile.

Regards

Re: A900 flowers with distagon

hello klensch8844,

yes it is the M42 version with a cheap adapter from ebay and no additional chip . i did not change the focus screen .

it is interesting to see how some browsers and computers alter the colors . i use apple's safari and that browser has no problem showing AdobeRGB .
see the answers of Bart7D and LesP .
my screen is calibrated.
microsoft's internet browser is far behind Safari and Firefox .

to avoid the browsers you can download the photo here :

delete the x in jpgx

can you tell me if this is an improvement .

I downloaded your jpeg and find it lacks contrast. Is there a glass element in that M42 adapter?

Here is a version with bumped up contrast:

Re: Hello, Guido,

good evening ralf ,
first of all : how is the look with your browser ?

i did intentional not push the contrast to show how the camera can register fine detail and fine shades .
for print : i should also ad more punch . no there is no glass element .
Guten Abend ,
guido

Safari 5.1.7, looks identical to what I see in Aperture. So no browser problem here.

I just looked at the sRGB large version you posted below, which shows the potential of your cam/lens combo much better. WRT the colors, that sRGB version looks very much like your previous version after I changed WB to "cooler". I did not post that version.

Re: Hello, Guido,

This with adjusting white, black and background to neutral. The colors seems more pure fore me now.

Reposted it converted to sRGB.

Re: Hello, Guido,

colors ar more fresh now !
my intention was not the accurate color but :

  • show how you can use the distagon 25mm 2,8 in M42 mount for close-up as the minimum distance between the front lesn and the object = 6 cm !

  • i saw the flowers in an dim evening light and i liked to hold the "mood" and not showing the flowers as they were in bright daylight or in studio . for that purpose i have a small studio with multiblitz strobes . as it is shot in raw there is no problem to change the "mood" .

about rgb : why throwing away a lot of colors with srgb as now today screens and printers can handle larger gamuts ?
