Green Heron

I was hiking down river, crossed one creek & diverted around another & the twisted mangled mess of trees by the river's edge was too much & decided to head back & stumbled on this fellow I was trying to get back to where I know there is a 100 nest Great Blue Heron rookery .... never got there. I had the Sigmonster with a 2x converter attached & was surprised I was able to set the tripod up & find him .... having the flexiblility of zooming back to 600mm helps find the subject ... especially when I am shooting through lots of trees, twigs & brush. I was also able to shoot some great video too .... BUT ..... I am right now using my very limited laptop because my main system motherboard died 3 days ago So, my color & processing is very sub par on this one .... let me know how I did I just had to see if I could do this from my laptop ..... also had to update my CS3 to CS5 ..... haven't had the need for a while
Cheers

Kite food exchange near nest, and spring colorful birds

I had a very busy month of shooting until my mother became ill two weeks ago....it's gonna be a long month, but I was lucky to get these! [My favorite time of year is nesting period.

the babies are so darn cute, they rasp loudly when mom is near and then duck back in the nest to be fed

I was lucky to observe several feedings, parents working very hard at exchanges, then releaving each other while one rested...nature is amazing...

mom bringing in the bacon

Hi Linda,

Wonderful collection. Only wish I had the opportunity to photograph these wonderful birds. I look forward to viewing your future work.
Good luck and I hope your mother is improving.

Re: Osprey, treecreeper

Had my 30D's front focusing af problem sorted by canon uk at the end of last year. Then had sigma calibrate my HSM 100-300 F4 to the body as the af was still off on that and now it works a lot better (as long as I shoot from f5.6 up as it still front focuses at F4 - there seems to be a focus shift from F4 to F5.6 with this lens ).... Managed to get a sequence of shots of the osprey diving into the water and coming out with a pike but only had the 55-250 IS with me rather than the sigma, this was taken at the RSPB site Loch of Kinnordy in Scotland:

and had a treecreeper happily searching for food right next to a footpath at the RSPB reserve Minsmere in Norfolk UK:

Re: Bullfinch

Nice shots of the bullfinch. They used to come to our garden quite regularly a few years ago and would even bring their young, but for the last couple of years I don't think any have come in, which is a real shame because as you've shown they are beautiful birds.

Elephants from kenya

I shot this in on a private conservency in Kenya. The night before one of these visited us at our tent at 2:00 A.M. It was shot with a 40D and 70 200F4IS at F7.1,ISO400,1/800, 100mm, in A1 Servo. I added a touch of HDR to pop out the sky. Bernie G

Re: Elephants from kenya

The light, color and composition on this one is fantastic. But I would be tempted to crop it as an 8x10 removing the partial elephant on the right.
