Purchasing Canon refurbished 60D and 50mm 1.4? Thoughts?
Looking into purchasing a new 60D and a 50mm f/1.4 through Canon's refurbished program. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this...
Price is right, but I am a little hesitant. Positive/Negative experiences? Help please.
Refurbished? Any issues?
I got the 60D from the loyalty program, I think it had 58 actuations. Love the body. No problems, no blemishes, just a great camera.
I bought the 50mm 1.4 new on the winter rebate. I would say I like this lens a lot less than I liked 50mm on a film SLR. I would look at one of these (I am too):
EF 24mm f/2.8 $374
EF 28mm f/1.8 USM $469
EF 35mm f/2.0 $330
I find the 50mm 1.4 to be great for low light, but it really is a small tele- rather than a good walk around lens. Then again this depends entirely on what you are shooting. If you aren't familiar with the APS-C crop it can be surprising when you look through the 50mm.
Go for the 35 f=2.0 "A gemstone at an affordable price !"
Very sharp at 2.8 ...> 16, even ok at 2.0 !
Give nice blurred backgrounds, is lightweight yet sturdy, with smooth manual focus.
(Tried it some while ago, will buy soon).
35 mm is in fact "the 50 mm for the crop-camera" (35 x 1.6 = 51)
60D bought new, 50 f1.4 bought used off fredmiranda board. Be aware that on a crop camera like the 60D, the 50mm lens is a short telephoto. The 35mm or 28mm lenses are "normal" lenses. The 35 seems to run around $200 less than the 28mm.
