HOW disappointed are you?

Ok...

1) so a X2 with NOT a 50mm equivalent f1.4 lens - same old body, same old (good, but f2.8) lens, an ugly EVF optional...and same old low resolution LCD...oh boy.

So for sure NOT an X100, OM-D, X-PRO 1 and so on "killer".

2) M9-M - same body, same layout, same old low resolution LCD - just an monochrome version of the (old?) sensor.

A niche product for sure...

For me - as you can imagine from what above has been written - disapointing at all fronts.

So HOPEFULLY the PHOTOKINA 2012 with M10, the announced mirrorless, interchangeable lenses solution will give LEICA products that they can sell in large amounts to keep LEICA in business - with that products today announced I believe they can't be competitive...

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

I think monochrome M is awesome. I wish I could afford one (or an M9 for that matter).

The x2 though I think will not do so well and probably poses no threat to the x100. Nothing about it makes me want to sell my x100 for it.

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

I was hoping the X2 could have gone to a slightly faster 2.0 lens and a modernized LCD. Even run of the mill point and shoots have much (!) nicer screens.

I am still excited to see sample images.

x2

230,000 dot rear LCD! LOL. 2003 called and is thrilled. You'd think for the price they'd at least humor us with 460,000 dots for the price. FAIL.

More like perplexed...

I posted this elsewhere too...

I read something about Lightroom 4 and Silver Efex Pro both being included with the purchase. That seems odd since Silver Efex Pro uses color files to convert convincingly to film-like B&W images... so... ???... (perplexed look)

I would hope that camera has some built-in algorithm/software that optimized the B&W files -- at the moment of capture -- better than what Silver Efex Pro could do, after the fact, with a monochrome file...

Bizarre... and a little confusing...

As for the X2 -- I'll be keeping my X100 for now. Sorry Leica.

Re: More like perplexed...

Yes very perplexed!

X2 ..... only Leica could rely on their fanbase to continue providing further revenue without substantial progress.

No more money from me though ...I'm hanging on to my X1 and X100.

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

Quite. I won't buy the monochrome camera, but I like the idea that they've produced one.

And it was almost inevitable to my mind that they wouldn't also update the rear lcd - much as this is needed - because that wouldn't (to my mind) make sense from a product positioning perspective, let alone presumably pushing the cost up even more for a niche product.

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

The biggest problems right now are the ancient LCD screen and horrible ISO performance; neither of which were fixed.

I honestly hope they go out of business, so other manufacturers can fill the void with better and cheaper products.

Hello Fuji X-Pro-1.

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

Why would you write that? It doesn't even make sense. Leica isn't holding anybody back from making cheaper m-mount cameras (look up the Epson R-D1). The fuji cameras are awesome, and hopefully motivate Leica to improve technically so as to justify their price. Your mini-rant seems driven out of envy.

I don't own anything Leica, but I wouldn't want them out of business.

Re: HOW disappointed are you?

The X2 needed a radical remake to put it near the top of the class. That did not happen, in my opinion. I see some nice icing on the cake, but I feel that my girlfriend has not lost much value in her X1 after the X2 release.

Re: HOW disappointed are you? X2

Dear Leica,

What were you thinking with the Olympus-like appendage evf? Moreover, 230K is a slap in the face to people waiting for an upgrade. I cannot think of one reasonable explanation for such an omission, or should I say, comission? By the way, the paltry 1/2000th shutter speed is pretty said, wouldn't you say?

Maybe I missed the price, but, no thanks at any price over $1100.

I close by saying that whatever Fuji comes up with to upgrade its X100 is very likely to be not only a better value, but more importantly, a better photographic tool in my estimation.

Yup - NO M10 with D800E sensor...

But - that I already did now in advance of today's revelation...but X2 really has been disappointing - old tech and NOT competitive what other brands are delievering in 2012.

Technical wise or just about the price tag ($8000)?

No M10 and of course X2 - come on - you can't call that an "innovative" camera in 2012...

Yup - after 2 1/2 years you really could expect a MAJOR upgrade but with that specs - just a bad joke, being on the extreme side, to present that X2 in 2012 as a competitor for the other brands and, let's be honest, as it is LEICA I would expect an even higher price tag...
