Support for D800E on Apple's Aperture

I just received my D800E but find Aperture doesn't recognise the files. Does anyone have a workaround or know when the upgrade might come? I've given feedback to Aperture on the following link which is what they suggest. Others may like to give them feedback too, as a big response will hurry along the upgrade.

Are you certain? I thought the D800 and 800E would have the same fingerprint with Aperture. This could be a real issue.

Convert them to DNF with the most recent DNG converter from Adobe and the import them. That is what I do.

I think if you were able to alter the RAW file to read D800 instead of D800e it would probably work as well, but that seems like too much work when the DNG conversion works just fine and can be automatic.

Yes, I have tried downloading the files and they come up with the Unsupported Image Format symbol. I called Apple and they led me to believe the D800E will need a different update because the different filtering system affects the way the RAW files will be imported into Aperture.

Do you know if this is ONLY for RAW or JPG also? Thank you.

Re: Support for D800E on Apple's Aperture

I'm running Snow Leopard and the current release of Aperture. Periodic OS X releases have recently installed themselves, and I also manually installed the latest Aperture RAW updates. I can open Nikon D900 NEFs just fine in Aperture.

Of course, that should read, "I can open Nikon D800 NEFs just fine in Aperture."

[I went to the Apple support site to retrieve the Aperture RAW updates. That's probably all you need if you're also running the most current version of OS X.]

Re: D800 vs D800E

Yes the D800 update has been supplied by Apple but does not work for the 800E. The issue is that the D800E needs its own update which has not yet been released.

Re: D800 vs D800E

NEFs from the D800e require an additional Apple update? D800 and D800e NEFs are different?

Won't read D800E. Just tried it. I always convert with NX2 anyway. Make camera corrections or changes and save to tiff for Aperture. If you don't have it you can run the trial version free until Apple catches up.

Lightroom reads D800E just fine, you can use it as trial version for processing, conversion to TIFF or DNG etc. Who knows, you might eventually find you like and it use it solely. I know I did.

Thanks for the tip, it's a good idea. Got that working. The detail in the images from the D800E is stunning.
