E-M5 user guide published

It's not something we've done before but, having spent a lot of time getting to know the E-M5, and having watched the sorts of questions people had about the camera, it seemed to make sense to put a simple user guide together.

It's not utterly comprehensive, but I think it covers a lot of the main things that I'd have wanted explained to me, when i first picked up the camera.

I'd like to add my thanks to Timur Born who did a huge amount of investigating and double-checking, especially on the video side of things, in support of this piece.

I hope it's useful.

Thanks!

My bet is that will be very helpful, and my bet is many owners will get more out of their cameras because of it.

WoW! THANK YOU DP!

This is HUGE! Awesome! More than useful! And helpful for those of us (like myself) who need an overview which includes a how-to-use-features part of the camera before making a decision about the purchase!

Maria

Thanks Richard, Timur

Nice, added now to my links page

Thanks for that, now DPReview is really earning its keep.

Should be more of those guides produced for all makes, great value.

Meanwhile the Guide is now added to my Oly M4/3 links page http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/03-epl1-links.html for others to stumble on.

Re: E-M5 user guide published

Many thanks and very well done -- still learned a few things even after having been through all the menus 10 times. This camera really benefits from making a number of changes to the defaults.

Only thing i would add (under "...and for legacy lenses") is the need to set the FL for MF/legacy lenses under Shooting Menu 2 -> Image Stabilizer.

Thank you, Richard.

I will definitely read up on it before I get my E-M5.

Re: E-M5 user guide published

One of the first things I would do when I purchased a new Oly was to visit Andrzej Wrotniak's site and use his setup guide. He is no longer updating his setup guides so this is a nice alternative.

Re: E-M5 user guide published

Thanks. It gives me something to read while I wait for my local camera store to get there next shipment in. Just over 3 weeks ago they got 5 in and I was 6 on the waiting list. Maybe this week. I have the 45/1.8 lens and the FL600R flash with no camera to use them on.

Re: E-M5 user guide published

Thanks very much. Just knowing where the live view button is is worth it. I've used Oly for 5 years and studied this camera extensively for 4 days, but still learned a lot. BTW changing the size of the AF box is a real challenge- I can do it but not explain it too well. A description of that, or a link, would be welcome.
