Lisbon (Portugal) and nearby

My wife and I went to Lisbon for a few days recently.

I had debated whether to take both my NX100 and my DSLR (Samsung GX-10), but in the end decided just to take the NX100 to save a bit of space and weight.

It worked fairly well - and once againg the NX100 + 30mm really was a winner in terms of getting sharp accurately exposed and focussed images - sometimes in quite difficult lighting conditions. But with hindsight I did miss my 18-250mm Tamron that I have on the GX-10 as there were some shots - particularly of family that I missed in the need to change lenses.

In addition to the 30mm I took the 20-50mm, the 50-200mm (which was rarely used) and the Russion Zenitar 16mm F2.8 - which got a fair amount of use, but is a lot more work than the 30mm.

Here are some of the results.

Processed in Capture One 6 Pro:

Processed in Corel Aftershot Pro - using the Nostalgia Film Simulation Plugin:

And this one made me laugh - Police on Segway's in the centre of Lisbon:

Great shots! Love the BW ones, work very well.

I gave up on BW as I do not have the pp-skills and BW out of cam is often dissapointing - but your shots make me reconsider and tell me that I should try harder and learn the skills.

Re: Lisbon (Portugal) and nearby

Thanks all for your kind comments.

Thomas, The reason I use Aftershot Pro (Formerly Bibble Pro) for the B&W processing is that it has a great range of B&W options with the Nostalgia - Film Simulation plug-in.

I typically proces for high contrast colour first, then set the Film type to Foma Fomapan 100 Microphen 11Min and Paper Type to Foma Fomaspeed Variant III Filter 3 or Filter 5. This produces a high contrast B&W image. It causes some detail to be lost in the shadows and highlights but I like the results.

Did you fly there yourself? I am not normally a great fan of black and white myself but I do like the castle picture which really hits the spot. Very brooding and atmospheric.

Much as I would like to - my licence currently restricts my flying to the UK. However changes in European Legislation may mean my licence will be converted to a Europe wide one later this year.

That sounds great news. I hope it works out OK.

Great information, thank you!

Made me remember the days long gone when as a student on tight budget bought fomapan films and paper in Hungary. While the film material was not the equal in quality to Ilford, they certainly had great papers with lot of character so it is nice to see that digital photography keeps on this tradition.
