developer menu settings in firmware.

I was perusing through the nx200 firmware with a hex editor and lo an behold, I stumble across additional developer menu subheadings that are hidden/disabled from appearing on screen. One in particular interests me... 'disable recording time limit'

developer menu starts at address 8F7DF8,

Developer Menu
1. FW Update
(1) Body Firmware Update
(2) Lens FW Update
(3) Ext. Flash Firmware Update
(4) DSP Firmware Backup
(5) Reset User Date

2. System Parameter
(1) Factory Reset
(2) Power Off Temp
(3) Disable Chinese Language
(4) Disable Display Save
(5) Disable Power Save
(6) Disable Movie Rec Limit
(7) No lense Release Enable
(8) Disable Int Err Power Off
(9) Disable Watchdog Reset

3. Adjustment Control
(1) Auto Start Disable
(2) PTP Automation Enabled
(3) Line Process Step
(4) Line Process Mark
(5) Adjust Data To Log Filed
(6) Adjust Result

4. Lens Control
(1) OIS Adjustment
(2)Zoom Wide Set
(3) Zoom Tele Set
(4) MR Sensor Adjust
(5) Lens Mount Info.
(6) Lens Comm Saved

And I quote from these websites dedicated to the panasonic digital camera,

http://www.ayton.id.au/wp02/?p=5362

"...have some features currently availability in hacks such as the hacks to get longer than 29min 59sec recording time – a limit to avoid higher tax rates on the cameras in some regions."

Also,

http://www.sansmirror.com/cameras/camera-faq/

"Vitaliy Kiselev managed to dissect the GH-2 (and GH-1 for that matter) firmware and figure out how to use it to have the camera's built-in ASIC use different settings than are revealed through the usual menu system. You can find out more about his firmware hack here..."

Re: developer menu settings in firmware.

i think you may have found the solution to removing recording limit, but just need to make sure whether this will void the warranty?

the one thing that i need, is never found, on the need to remove max 4 mins bulb mode...

That is what I thought too, useful for those adapters that don't quite push the lens mount switch to make it think a lens is attached.

huh.....interesting thought....will see if I can locate the the button press combination for dev mode in firmware. press 'up' on jog dial, press 'OK', press 'down' on jog dial, then press '+ -' exposure and 'OK' at the same time.

as you suggested, there may be a different combination to bring the extra menu settings up.

Re: developer menu settings in firmware.

wondering if the samsung nx200 service manual would shed some light on this subject.
The only place I have found it is here,

http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/168958746-samsung-nx200-service-manual-repair-guide

for $13 bucks, I guess I should get it, but I know if I do, it wont say squat about the developer menu, and If I dont, It will hold all my answers

Re: developer menu settings in firmware.

so the service manual came in the mail today.

in pdf format on 1 cd, I went straight to the firmware chapter, and describes how to bring up the extra developer menu settings.

Its actually an extension of the regular key combination described on this forum in a previous thread.

This is for the nx200.

turn power on.
select 'smart auto mode'.
press these buttons in sequence:

1. UP
2. OK
3. DOWN
4. OK
5. RIGHT
6. EV + OK (press OK while pressing EV button)

The additional developer menu settings are now available.

I have tried the 'disable movie rec limit' option with a check mark and will see if it records beyond the 25 min limit it STILL shows on screen.
Will look into this more on Sunday

Of course using a custom firmware would void the warranty – if Samsung checked such things and used it as grounds to deny warranty service or returns.

They don't. They even put a 'flash flag' counter system on their Galaxy phones and people have been flashing custom firmwares for months tripping that flag counter and there's no reports of Samsung checking phones for flagging.

It's very likely they have no such 'flag' counter or policy to double check firmware of a camera like the NX200 that comes in for warranty return or service.

Just for info, this key sequence also brings up the developper menu on the NX100...
But there is way less options, sadly...

Re: warranty

I wis the NXs could have the same recovery download mode system....

Odin for NXs plox.

Re: developer menu settings in firmware.

Very good done nx200USER1 ! I tested a little PTP, it really works.
My value of Line Process Mark is 7, but I do not know what it means.

Re: warranty

I have one of the recent Samsung Galaxy Android phone and although I didn't flash any custom firmware, I did Root the phone to gain additional master access... in case i need to claim warranty, I'll reflash the original i.e. unroot or for those that have flashed any custom firmware, then reflash back to original firmware before sending the unit back for warranty. Not sure about the flash flag you heard about, but from where I am now and as to my knowledge from most retail stores, Samsung will not accept any claims if they find out the firmware has been in anyway, tempered with...

There isn't any custom firmware available for NX200 but I'm just worried if you changed certain settings and if you forget to change it / them back, it's gonna be a costly mistake for this could have saved some unnecessary arguments with Samsung service center....

Re: warranty

Actually, it's not that hard to brick a Galaxy... Check the Note forums at XDA - people using N7000 roms on i717 hardware fatal brick their phones all the time. And not just that error, but others have bricked their Int'l and LTE Notes.

I attribute that in part to the rampant dissatisfaction with the grossly outdated, sluggish and yet still buggy Gingerbread, when the Note should have shipped with ICS and more polished versions of the native apps, like Visual Voicemail, etc.

Samsung did nobody any favors with the Note, most 'note'ably the USA market (as with many Asian electronics firms, including Sony). They're only now rolling ICS out for the non-LTE model, scant months before the new OS is slated to launch.

Re: warranty

I had issues with my previous Galaxy phone and returned it - rooted. They really don't care. They reflash those things when refurbing them, anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I meant to get default value for Line Process Step. Is it 1?

Line Process Step is off on my NX200.

PTP is Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP activation canceled USB masstorage function and NX200 becomes to PTP USB device, which can be theoreticaly controlled from PC (with suitable software). I tested CameraTetherver.52h1, but it is not function with NX200.
