Sigma 30mm Finds an Angel

Just got the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 for my NEX-7. Shot this in the backyard, trying the lens out at f/2.8. Converted in Lightroom 4, using the Silver Efex Pro 2 plugin for the B&W conversion.

Loving this lens so far. Truly a home run, especially for the price.

Very nice Scotty, though I believe that statue has seen better days...

Love the shot. The composition is nice and B&W is great!

Love everything about it ...

The little Victorian angel, her weathering, the light, the b/w tonality. Great shot.

The Sigma 30 has been a real joy to use. Great acutance and microcontrast, a complete absence of veiling flare and glow. It's just a super lens, and it's doing a good job for you here.

Here's one that shows some of the same qualities:

Re: Love everything about it ...

Glad you liked the shot. My wife has blessed our yard with many little photo opportunities!

I agree so far with your assessment of the lens. Quite a bargain, IMO. I've seen samples from lenses costing many times more, but don't seem to have much on this one in terms of IQ. Color might be a tad yellow, but that seems to be easy to correct.

Nice gallery, BTW. Beautiful dog, too!

Nice one John!

Sure would like to visit your part of the globe some day. Seem to be no shortage of photo opportunities there!

Thanks very much! So far I think this lens is tough to beat, given the $200 US price tag.

Re: Love everything about it ...

re the shot of your dog, is there some pixel cloning running across above the head?
Looks like I can see 3 echoes and at full size they have every eyebrow hair etc.
If it is the lens then I am scared!

Nah that's not the lens ...

That's clumsy cloning-out of an electric meter. I just repaired it somewhat, but I need to start over with the picture to get it right.

Seems to be to dark to me. Not sure if that is what you were going for or if you were having trouble with blowing the highlights in the statue. I brightened it up just a little everywhere else but the statue.

Nope, I got it just the way I like it in the original version - but thanks.
