WB850f Release

Has the WB850f been released anywhere in the world? I'm in the U.S and I've seen the release date slip from 4/25 to 5/4 and I'm wondering if that date will hold. So far it hasn't shown up on Amazon with pre-order option.

Re: WB850f Release

In Australia, Ted's Cameras ( a camera store chain with branches in most capital cities) have it available for pre-order at AU$349.95 and described as "coming soon". It has been that way for at least a month. They also have the WB150F listed at AU$249.95. When I last looked a couple of weeks ago, that was also "coming soon" but is now showing as "in stock", so hopefully the WB850F won't be much longer.

Re: Better price WB850f

I searched again and found http://www.discountcameras.com.au offering the WB850F for AU$294.42. I had never heard of them before but they seem legit. The "Buy Now" button brought up a message advising it is not in stock but due in 2 weeks and giving the option to proceed with the order or cancel. I cancelled but that's not a bad price for Australian buyers.

You guys are nuts if you're willing to pay full price for it.

I was only answering the o.p.'s question although I'm interested as I need a replacement for my old Olympus superzoom.

For anything relatively expensive like the NX20, there's no way I'd pay the initial asking price which is always the rrp (or msrp). I'm happy to wait a few months for the street price to be established and save a few hundred dollars. However, for an item in the $300 price range, it is not worth waiting around for months to save maybe $50 or $100. By then, there'll be a new model out. If you keep waiting, you never buy anything.

Re: Better price WB850f

I wasn't speaking to you directly, implying that you would buy, or even buy at that price.

In the case of the 750 and 700, they only appeared in Germany as hugely marked down cameras, starting in the 129 euro range for the 750 and 109 for the 700. They were always in the metal clearance bins at the end of aisles at the big box stores when they were finally physically released. So that's significantly more than the number you made up in savings.

Re: Better price WB850f

Forgot to add that I would never buy something with a sensor stuffed with so many MP for its size.

The WB650 was borderline with its 12MP, though being graced with quite a nice, sharp lens, albeit, slow. At base ISO and good lighting, it's actually a great camera. The later ones, with more and more zoom and stuffed MP sensors, not so good. For the rest, I have my N8, which produces pretty stunning video and pics.

It is is impossible to read what you said any other way. The OP just asks what the price of the camera was and you start flaming him for wanting one and then everyone for being willing to pay the price which no-one actually said they would.

His comments are not meant to make sense, their only purpose is to disrupt the flow of any thread where either samsung or one of their products is being discussed positively.

I would like to know how much he receives for every thread that he disrupts.

"Flaming" is your fabrication.

The statement was presented exactly as that- no one should be buying one of these cams at full price, let alone without testing.

The impossibility of reading it any other way is due to your own prejudices and wanting to turn every thread into a flame fest and wanting to drag a mob into every thread where I post, which, as usual, easily dragged Brianj into, and then he furthers it by adding fabrications.

It appears to be a set formula between you guys in purposely misinterpreting something, then using that as an excuse to call the mob in to help things out.

This thread is stuffed up now, why don't you select another one to attack and disrupt.

Re: Better price WB850f

Was perfectly fine until you and greynard appeared in order to once again make personal attacks and not post on the topic.

Great teamwork, as usual.

Hi Brian,

You and I are apparently great pals ganging up on the noble snake_b. It is amazing the hysteria that results when people who like to chuck it around by the gallon find a drop splashes on them.

Regards,

Mike

Re: Better price WB850f

Thanks for all the info.....

I'm hoping to get the camera before my trip. I don't mind paying the first release price in this case. I travel light, so a camera with wifi would help, less cables and back-up stuff. I was looking at the Sony Hx30v, but that is released 5/11 and I leave on 5/12, so that wouldn't work. If the WB850 is released on 5/4 I'll probably have to pay 2 day shipping on top of full price.....Oh well sometimes things just don't line up in your favor....

Re: Better price WB850f

I'd honestly wait until you can test out the IQ. Also, no one knows how well the WiFI will work for picture transfers and if the bugs are completely worked out, so just wait.

Honestly, if you're going to need something, you can't beat the Canon SX230, for instance. The IQ is pretty damn good. Naturally, no wifi, but you get a cam with great IQ.

Thanks again for all the help....

If I miss the release date in the U.S, could anyone recommend stores in Germany that I could check and see if they have the camera...

Re: Better price WB850f

So the WB850F are about to be released soon? Then perhaps I should wait and see what the full-size sample images turns out like if. Must take a decision on what super-zoom to buy before the end of may. So far it seems to be the Canon SX260 which have the best image quality of this year's crop of super-zooms.

I would be surprised if Samsung with their usually messy NR could change the order but nonetheless glad if it happened. I was about to order the SX260 in the coming week or the following but may rather wait now to see what the WB850F turns out like.
