I promise I will not open new thread...

... for every airshows in this year.

Not really an airshow, it is a manoeuvre.

Keep them coming! It's nice to see the 7D represented in a positive light!

Very Nice! You should go to the Reno Air Races, aside from what happened last year I think they intend to have them again.

It is Not Like it is a Killer Issue....But....

...if possible, and it's not too much trouble, maybe you could include a little exif info?

I would be particularly curious about iso and shutter speed necessary to catch these shots, or maybe just a few of them so we could have an idea of how this is done.

Thanks.

Dear Traveller!

I always use my 400mm 5.6 L at f/6.3, because this is its "sweet point", so I use aperture priority mode for take photos of jets. I manage the shutter by adjusting ISO. I try to hold the shutter below 1/1000 with minimum ISO (250-500). Ok, it is not the simplest method, but it is mine and I like it. Of course, for a sunset airshow ISO1000-1600 is needed.

I use shutter priority mode only for helicopters and props, the photo of two MI-17's was taken at 1/125 (large and slow rotors) and ISO100.

Re: I promise I will not open new thread...

Hello,
I am very impressed by the quality of your shots.
These have been made using a 7d and the Canon L 400/5.6 ?
Having your respective exif data would help greatly.
Are these out of the camera OOC pictures ?

I mean standard JPEG ones or did you apply some post processing to RAW pictures ?
If so kindly tell details.
Thanks in advance.

I'm Surprised the Shutter Speed Seems so Slow To Me...

...I have no talents for BIF's, but the crucial variable I've learned is to up your shutter speed, always.

I would have thought that many of these were shot at 1/2000/sec or higher.

Nice to know your technique.

Thanks

Traveller

Re: I promise I will not open new thread...

No, these are not OOC JPGs.

I use RAW format only.

Developing (shadows/highlight correction, noise filtering, saturation) in Lightroom (TIFF). Cropping + resizing + jpg conversion in GIMP.

Thank you!

Re: I promise I will not open new thread...

Thank you very much - does it take long to carry out all these adjustments ?

Incidentally ---I feel that the respective OOC JPEG images of the 7d are no good at all for discerning eyes. A real pity and my main reason to cling onto my "stoneage"

40Ds and 50D ! These oldies keep on producing usable OOC quality even of difficult subjects like plane in the sky shots !
This reflects my own experience only.

Hole in the sky?

Is it my imagination or does the first pic have a big round hole in the sky right above the plane?

Great photos!

Florennes, Belgium, the first airshow for me in this year.

Very large distance from the axis of display, but it was perfect to try out my new Kenko teleconverter.

LOL. It does look like a big hole in the sky, now that you mention it!

Looks like some sort of airborne radar command and control system. Is it the Boeing E-3 Sentry?

I can't see the exif. Where these taken with your 7D and 400 f5.6?
