Minolta 28 - 80 AF Zoom lens
I found this at a sale. In the box, perfect condition, never opened.
I have lenses that cover this, what should I do with it?
It cost me 7 bucks and change. You read it right. The store was closing, a Mom and Pop operation for about 30 years.
It's now a digital print shop. Not selling cameras, but printing large format stuff you can't get a printer for. Posters at 50 bucks for people who will find out that image has a lot of warts when you blow it up, but your kids might just like it anyway. (Or your Mom for that matter).
So, do I sell it to make ten bucks, hoard it like everything else, or donate it.
I might do the latter, to the photo school here in town.
Hi John -
The lens you ran into can be one of four different lenses, of which you can get a reasonable impression here:
Good luck with it!
I have the 28-80mm lens as well but mine is the version with the 62mm filter threads. I think it'll be a good for you-it sure will for me on my A390.
Mine has a nice zoom ring action-not too stiff.
Got mine at a lifeline charity store with a Minolta film SLR.
Lens says AF Zoom 28 80mm 1:3.5(22)-5.6 D and elsewhere
13 foot Macro
This lens 'feels' nice and I like the rubber zoom part.
I think they are pretty common on the 300si and 500si models from the mid 90's, which were sold under numerous other names (QTsi, HTsi, etc.). The 35-80 is also pretty common with them, maybe more common, a lot of them are gray.
The Xi version probably has better IQ, but, it'd be an Xi lens... (the 28-105 Xi I have has a motor on the zoom and no focus ring, I don't know what similar feature the others have).
They don't have very good reputations, and the one or two I've played with pretty much lived up to (down to) that reputation. But try it out and play with it a while. The worst thing that can happen is you'll find out what a difference a good lens can make (comparing to one that isn't).
Hoard it! Totally!
Get this and make it a center piece:
The guy has more than 10 of these available. Get 10 of them !
