D800 vs D3s 6400ISO comparison
It's quite amazing what the D800 is capable of. Here I downsampled the D800 to match the D3s resolution with CS5.
Even though the D3s ISO has about 1/3-1/2stop advantage, the D800 clearly has more details than the D3s.
Both images are RAW processed with ACR 6.7 default, 0 NR, 25 color NR.
Here's the same D800 image with Topaz NR. IMO, it's 1/2stop better than the D3s and still has more detail. Stunning!
what do you expect? The D800 is 36mp and the D3s is 12mp, of course, the 36mp's camera has more details or resolution than the other less mp's DSLR. A downsampled image means the file size is smaller than the original and doesnt mean the resolution is gone or disappeared.
While I'm at it, my as well include the 5D2 and 5D3.
Again, both are RAW processed with ACR 6.7 default, 0 NR, 25 color NR. Downsampled to D3s resolution.
This is quite shocking to me because, 5D3 is not much better than the 5D2 and definitely worse than the D800.
Thanks for the comparison.
One can discuss the relative merits of different cameras til the cows go home, but in terms of pure image quality I don't think there are many DSLR's that can match up to the D800 right now
