Amazing details with 5D mk III !!

Well....i just came back from the studio from a dear friend
We did talk a lot about the mk III (....though he is waiting for the D800E )

We printed some images I took today and we were very impressed with the camera output

I find the image quality at base ISO to be extraordinary !

We did some large print with his gigantic Epson GS6000..... I was on the floor to see how great the print came out and well the detail where retained despite printing so big!!!

Here s the picture we printed

5D mk III with the 100m 2.8 L

100% Crop

Upsized to 45mp for the large print

I love this camera!!!

Thanks for the post. Your image looks very nice with plenty of rich detail. I can't wait to get my camera. But I'm not sure that I am seeing any more detail here than I am getting with my 5D II.

Nice, but...

but have you shot with the 135 F2 on a 5dII at iso 100 and these light conditions yet? I'm just saying...

MII and MIII Prints Compared

I appreciate that someone actually printed a photo with the new camera. I am curious (as others) if the print is actually any better when compared to a similar print from the MII. I realize that people here are excited about the new camera and that they took the time to show the work they did with it and I appreciate that. I am thinking about buying the camera, but if I can get the same printed (printed is the key word here) result from a camera that sells for $1,400 less (I know I will miss a few shots because of the new features) then for a hobbiest that takes mostly landscapes, macros, some portrait and walk around shots is the extra money in the 5D MIII's printed result justified?

Has anyone compared the two cameras' printed results?

Thanks,

David

I don't want to disappoint anyone, but if someone want to see what detail is and great portrait shots are, here is a link

no worries, those are disappointing.

those are disappointing, like you were afraid of.

"well, I will just shoot wide open, crank up the contrast, reduce the saturation, and ignore the way the background looks like ground beef and the skin looks like leather. It makes the people look dead, but I can post this on the Canon forum and brag about the detail. Perhaps it will annoy somebody making it well worth my time"

You mean like this guy did?

and ignore the way the background looks like ground beef

There is no background to speak of, thanks to the crop

and the skin looks like leather

As tends to happen to ageing homeless people who sleep outside

It makes the people look dead

Others would argue it's as artistic choice, as is the case with most black and white treatments.

C'mon, Andre. Stop being a childish troll. You are a Nikon shooter and you post more on this forum than any of the Canon shooters do. You are really only ever making one point--that you think the D800 is better than the 5d3. You're welcome to your thoughts, but please post them on the appropriate forum and stop hijacking threads over here. Or, go take some pictures.

Same here. Go back to your forum to say nonsense, and while you leave take the other troll ukat123 with you.

Or this one- talk about amazing details.

Of course it says as much about the photographer as gears he uses but that seems to be the point lost for many posters here. So don't rush out to buy the first D800 you can get your hands on because of this.

Re: Can you explain?

For a $3500 investment what you get from this camera that you can't with 5DII for picture like this?

That is exactly the point. It is a great camera, but the 5DII is just about the same for a lot less money and looks like the best buy at the moment, while stock lasts. But it is good that there are early adopters paying the full price. It will eventually come down to $2000 which will make it more acceptable. It is difficult to believe the high price is required to cover high R&D expenses and past failed innovations/prototypes.

Canon will realise they cannot ignore that high mp is what perhaps 50% or more of the market wants. Things have changed. This is the environment we are living in. People see high def tv, high def ipad, high def iphones...they expect high def cameras now. Not that it is needed. but that is the way t it is. People want always more with technology for the same price or less money. Plain simple. That is the number one characteristic of technological goods. Cannot feel asleep.
