B&H not an authorized Nikon dealer?

Nikon USA has this list of authorized Nikon dealers:

http://www.nikonusa.com/en_US/IMG/Images/Corporate/Where-to-Buy/Nikon_Authorized_Dealers.pdf

I don't find B&H in there. Do they go by a different name? Did Nikon USA make a mistake? Or, did B&H lose their authorized status?

Yeah, it's a well-known fact . . .

. . . that B&H is just a front for the Mazzo Ball Mafia.

C'mon, your really think they're not a Nikon authorized seller? They've been around for years.

Oversight that has yet to be corrected

Huge oversight that has yet to be corrected. I recall reading something similar to this last year.

They're still on the list of available online retailers on this page:

The OP's list is newer but oddly Amazon is not on your list.

wrong list - try this

" Authorized Dealers as of January 9, 2012. List is subject to change at any time."

The OP's list is just a couple of days old. B&H has apparently been dropped.

Re: B&H not an authorized Nikon dealer?

since there are NPS members ordering there I wouldn't worry about it. My local store is a NPD - it's the size of a shoebox..... tis all good..

I don't think Amazon is a dealer but dealers that do sales trough Amazone, like a middle man.

Re: B&H not an authorized Nikon dealer?

About five years ago I was at our nearest brick and mortar store in Palo Alto trying hard to patronize local businesses. I was looking for a shoulder case but everything I wanted was (literally) twice the online price.

I brought it up to the salesperson in a friendly way, asking if there were any sales or discounts available as I'd really lie to give them some profit vs no profit. I mentioned B&H.

He asked me if I knew how B&H got their stuff. I said, well, I guess they buy it from the manufacturer. He said, nope. They get it "from the boxes that fall off the backs of trucks." That is to say, it's all stolen goods. All this while a second salesperson is listening, head nodding. He went on and on along these lines for a few minutes.

That was the day I stopped shopping at my local camera store and stopped feeling guilty about it.

Could explain why B&H does not seem to be shipping as much ...

... out on the new units. And the lack of estimated dates.

I bought a Mac from them a year ago, which turned out to be DOA. Apple was very helpful diagnosing the problem, but once we got to the "what to do" part, they looked up the serial number and said it was 6 months old unit sold to B&H, B&H was not an authorized dealer, so I had to deal with them, not Apple.

B&H was very good about the problem, but would not ship a new unit the defective one was returned and processed. They would pay for the return shipping, but I would have to pay for ship on the replacement. This would take a few days, which I did not have, so I went to the local Apple store. I was told the same thing, but when I explained I why I could not wait 2 - 3 days, they agreed to replace it.

I doubt this .... very much ....

... In fact I'd say this was a BS story your local guys use. The local guys hate B&H and mail order in general. B&H does way too much volume, has way to good a return policy, and, in my experience (and that of countless others), has never sold be an open and returned item. Like the local camera store does all day long.

That said, being an authorized dealer is not always what it's cracked up to be. There may be a fee or requirements that B&H does not want to anti up for. The re-seller's reputation is more important I think than a label or list that you can purchase a place on.

I work for a major consumer products company, and we have over the years stopped using professional association labels or icons on some products because of the cost to use those labels. We also found that in some cases associations will take the cash, even if the product does not meet their criteria, or even the product's claims. Perhaps not quit being an authorized dealer, but could be something along the same lines.

Re: B&H not an authorized Nikon dealer?

I had nearly the same experience at The Woodlands Texas Ritz Camera. I asked if they could match the B&H price and they said no because all B&H sells is gray market. Not a store I will ever enter again.

Re: B&H not an authorized Nikon dealer?

aye dont want to be going there, B&H do sell grey but it's clearly labelled as such and you don't get the warranty card obviously, but they almost always have the US equivalent....

I expect it is a mistake, but I figured a post like this might get an explanation from Henry P.
