Thanks for posting that thread. I read all the posts, and it seems as though there was at least one testy response that apparently referred to an earlier incident, or incidents. Other than that, it seems pretty straightforward.

That's the problem with many forums. If someone has caused issues in the past, the "forum memory" can be quite long. If the example you linked had involved a first-time poster, it would be a more worthwhile example. This one was more along the lines of a revenge shooting.

Now I just cannot help myself .... Given the above statement, why are you so keen to get your hands on an SD1M? Do you want a "strange camera" with a "strange sensor"?

That is certainly an example of bad behavior from some of the Sigma fans. His question was simple and politely expressed.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again for the comprehension challenged - when the Sigma gets it right, it gets it very right. I'm rather hoping the SD1 will be more reliable regarding percentage of keepers than my previous and current Sigmas. I'm prepared to take the risk.

Do I pass the test?

I stand by what I said about strange camera, strange sensor and strange zealots. They're given.

Re: Where's The Example of Bad Treatment of a New Poster?

Chuck Lantz wrote in his back and forth with Jaelkay:

And since you addressed the question of honesty so vigorously, would it be possible for you to provide at least one example where a new poster, with a real issue, was treated badly here, with no provocation?

I, and others I am sure, are eagerly awaiting the example (from anyone!) of a first time poster, "with a real issue" being treated badly here.

Inquiring minds want to know.

So I guess the answer is "yes".

And very timely, for me anyway, since I literally had both my SD15's on my desk when I read the thread, and was about to update the firmware to 1.03.

But the problem I mentioned, where the OP has a history involving "altitude" problems in these forums, and the result was a snarky reply, shouldn't be seen as an example of bad manners towards regular or new guests, but rather as an example of trigger-happiness when confronted by an old foe. All IMHO, of course.

A reaction to bad blood as opposed to new blood, if you will.

You do realise the problems will persist despite the thread having disappeared? You do understand that much - yes?

Burying dissent doesn't solve the problem.

It's called honest reporting. Honesty, with you lot, is an alien concept.

-- hide signature --

"Honest reporting" consists of a completely unbiased, well-researched and confirmed retelling of an event or situation, free of any hint of opinion, pro or con, by the author. All information contained in the report must be accurate at the time of writing, to the best of the author's knowledge.

Don't be over-dramatic and pedantic. Honest reporting could easily just as well be a user posting evidence of a significant difficulity he/she is experiencing with gear.

Are you beginning to see why people are loathe to post here?

There's nothing either overly-dramatic nor pedantic about my response to your post, which very apparently tries to define "honest reporting."

When you write "it's called honest reporting", and your definition is clearly inaccurate to anyone even remotely aware of the basic ethics of journalism, you shouldn't be surprised when you are corrected.

Do please learn to read for comprehension. There's a good lad.

Sure, if you'll learn that replying to partial quotes is dishonest. Deal?

Big ole totally free hint here - This AIN"T reporting as in news/media reporting laddie. It's "reporting" as in telling people of experiences. Get it?

Ahhh, I see. So, when you wrote "it's called honest reporting" you really didn't mean to write "honest reporting."

... that clarifies everything. Thanks again for playing!

Don't be a child. Of course I meant the reporting is honest. It's you who has applied the stupid rules to define "honest reporting" to the debate.

Learn to read FERCHRISSAKE

Learn to write what you mean in the first place, ferchrissake. That will solve all sorts of problems that you seem to encounter here.

.. but the "stupid rules" comment was kinda cute.
