Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

the exposure info, playback image and menu screens are all displayed upside down on the LCD and I can't find the function to rotate it back to normal. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

thanks

Well NYC......I dunno, move to Australia?:) Just kidding mate. I know you can rotate images in Image Playback but never heard of rotating the menu screens? How did this happen? What camera?

I'm assuming you are using a T3i, am I right? If that is the case, there is a sensor that detects with the LCD is flipped out, so it turns the image upside down for you to see it in the right way up. Maybe that sensor is failing. I would try to flip the LCD over a few times and see if that improves.

If you don't have a T3i or 60D, then I don't have the slightest idea what is happening, unless you are using Magic Lantern.

If it's a T3i, on the menu and the 7th icon over, you can set auto rotate on or off.

Yes, T3i

I thought I might have hit a button. The sensor may have gone bad. Looks right side up when the LCD is flipped out to the left side of the body but upside down when folded back against the body with screen facing me

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Hi,

Did you ever get that issue resolved with the display screen being upside down?
I have the same thing on a Canon Rebel T5i.....

It's not image related....it's something to do with an orientation sensor I think; if I have the screen flipped out to the side it's good, but when I put it back "flat" against the camera, all the info is upside down!!
Just happened out of the blue after about a year of use..?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Alan.

Same for me with Rebel 2 years old.  It has been doing this for around 6 months intermittently.  Now it is all the time.

Same thing started to happen "the display screen being upside down"

Camera: Canon EOS 70D

My guess if anything has failed it will be because of using the camera under the rain few years ago. I did not plan it but it happened.

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Just like the first person responded. Change the country from Australia to USA and it'll flip right back.

No, but seriously. It seems like whatever mechanism tells the screen to flip back is faulty. If you clip the screen out and look at it from the rear, where the viewfinder is, it's upside down so that it displays correctly. It's supposed to flip back automatically after. Try flipping it out a few times to see if it'll get nudged back. I have an 80D and t6i that I just looked through and didn't find anything about flipping the display intentionally.

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Hey guys... I had this problem for months too but I figured out an easy fix... just requires two screws not much tech work.. If it's something you guys might want to see I can definitely upload it to youtube. (This might sound really nice or something but I got help on a different forum so i thought i can return the favor with a bit clearer instructions)

I had the problem on my 70D btw should be the same I believe for the other models

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Did you post a youtube video? My T6i (now 18 months old) just flipped out yesterday. I've contacted Canon, but if that gets no good results, I'll have to attempt to fix the problem myself.

Hi - just wondering if you posted on You Tube. I would like to try to do the repair.

You could perhaps try sending a "private message" to Moealshaher.

Unfortunately that was his only post (ever).

Best of luck to you guys!

If you do find a fix, post back!

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Just ran across a 6-month old Moshegutu reply to a post on You Tube:

Don't know if it's supposed to be a video; on my computer it's just a still shot, so not a great deal of help, but gives me an idea of what's involved. (Note that the camera is a Canon EOS 60D.)

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

Hey so I fixed this issue on my T6i this morning, if anyone is interested.
Just a disclaimer, my camera is out of warrenty, so this was the only option I had for a fix that wouldn't be expensive. This fix requires soldering only once, but on a very small part. If your camera is under warrenty, you should go that route.

Also, this fix will rotate the screen permanently, meaning that the screen will be correctly orientated, while it is flat against the camera (live view). For me this is the perfect solution, as I don't really use the other screen orientation.

Okay, let's get to the issue. Inside the hinge of the camera there is a switch that controls the screen orientation. (See image below) When this switch is activated the wire coming in is connected to the chassis. This closes a circut that rotates the screen. My switch is broken in the unactivated position, which unfortunately means, that my screen is not in the position, that I need it in.

Upper red arrow: Rotating handle that acticates with the switch.
Lower red arrow: The plastic switch. (Broken)
Blue arrow: Place to jump with solder.

So I did some experimenting. I figured out, that by jumping the switch I could rotate the screen permanently. This takes the switch out of the equation.

The wire coming in to the PCB is connected to the small glob of solder on the side of the switch (See blue arrow above). This is one of the connecters of the switch. Activating the switch creates a connection to the metal top of the switch, which is connected to the chassis.

Therefore jumping the solderglob and the metal top of the switch will close the circut. (See below)

Screen rotation before fix. Notice the "P" in the bottom corner.

Jumping the switch by connecting the small solderglob to the metal top of the switch. Notice the screen is now rotated! Look at the "P" now in the top corner.

After ensuring this would work, I decided to put a glob of solder between the switch connecter and the metal top. This seems to have fixed my issue permanently.

However, when the screen is flipped out and facing away from the lens the screen is upside down. This is a tradeoff that I'm willing to accept, as I never use that position anyways.

The screen is now orientated correctly for my purpose!

If anybody have any questions or comments, I would be happy to answer. This this is not a comprehensive guide for fixing the issue. It is simply a description of how I fixed my issue.

Re: Info on LCD Display rotated upside down

I just got my Canon T5i and noticed that problem as soon as i fired it up. So far what I did was went settings by pressing the menu button, look for the "auto rotate" tab, and switch it off, then you should see a smoother transition from flipped to regular. if it doesn't work try reaching out to canon as I will do that right after finishing this post lol, it probably a sensor that's messed up, and it's good to get it fixed because we all paid good money for it, hopefully, they will understand too.
