SX130 IS & Color IR

Hi all

Do NOT wish to go to a Color IR conversion BUT---> > >

Am CURIOUS of HOW TO and what would Happen IF I used some sort OF Color IR lens/Filter in front of it's extended Zoom lens.

Would there be some Color IR photos that come of it with the 720nm filter or others???

Anyone tried this and any advice here???

Cheers for years
Colin

Re: SX130 IS & Color IR

Isn't the SX130 the camera that shares the same sensor and lens with the G9?

I use my unmodified G9 for 720nm IR all the time.

Here are four keepers: http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=41279036@N06&q=infrared

There is a whole discussion here: http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/G7ir.html

And another four photos w/ one crossover. The airplane wing was naturally handheld at high ISO, but it works. As described in the Lensmate article, I set the custom white balance (actually ages ago at this point) and it simply works.

I think the hard part will be getting a filter adapter at this point as that part is a little different than the one for the G9 as I remember.

Thank you SO much - Shorthand

Was just wanting to tape or W.HY. filter in front of the Zoom lens to see what happens and IF it can give Color IR photos that can be manipulated in Photoshop

Love the PHOTOS'

Re: SX130 IS & Color IR

My mistake - the G9 shares its sensor and lens with the PowerShot A650 IS, not the SX130.

The SX130 may have a MUCH better IR filter - which would be bad news for you unless you modify the camera.

Neither is on here, but here is a list of IR sensitivities for unmodified cameras:

Re: SX130 IS & Color IR

Have just tested outside but streetshot only, very few vegetation. its promising. used kodak wratten 88a and 87c. 87c is absorbing more, maybe cuts contrast too. must do further tests. BUT: forget colorsetting. its quite unsharp. USE b+w only. Not perfect but impressively sharp.

i was using powerstrip(soft but strong) to attach filter, be aware when removing gelatine filter. it could be ripped of. i think they have a weaker version. I have a sample here and will retry with it.

400 asa in bright sunlight, start with 10 sec /5.6 as a beginning. in some weeks vegetation will restart. with chdk we can use longer exposure times than 15 sec.

I have also glass-filter ir and IS(Infraschwarz=Infrablack). Will test with them later. didnt want to drop them from the balcony-wall. they are 58mm and quite heavy. Must search for a filterholder. nothing canon is offering, right? no tube like for a590is?

Correction: Sorry i was mistaken. Since wheather changed rapidly during test i had to set iso 400.

In bright sunlight i have set:

b+w, iso 80. 10sec/8 88A Kodak gelatin IR-filter  730 nm and upwards.

Very fine details, wonderful contrast

Must repeat color-shots, it looks quite monochrome, maybe i didnt use tripod, only cam sitting on a wall resulting in not perfect sharpness.
