Yep, the Travel Zoom camera war is heating up with Panasonic announcing its 20x zoom also this week. Have a good trip.

Would be very interested in this camera. Had a Panny TZ3 and TZ5 and loved that zoom range. Then got an S95 which is obviously great. It's low-light performance shames the older TZ's and it's overall IQ is excellent for a p&s. It's limited zoom range, and even that of the S100, is a bummer sometimes. I've been looking recently at the SX40, and this camera would slot nicely between she S95 and SX40 for me. And these new CMOS sensors have really cleaned up the low light performance that use to cripple the travel zooms.

I did a double-take when I saw that f6.8 on the long end. The 3.5 on the wide end is understandable for a 20x, but the f6.8?...seriously? Totally sucks. Complete non-starter in my book. I'll probably end up with the fuji F770.

Certainly the 6.8 isn't ideal, but it's only a 1/2 stop from 5.6. With high ISO getting cleaner and holding acceptable detail (subjective), a slower lens isn't as big a deal as it used to be for me. Will definitely want to see some reviews, though.

Re: SX240 HS Spotted - And Panasonic has competition with

the just announced ZS20 - also 20x zoom with a F3.3 - 6.4 lens. The Panny starts at 24mm - (24 - 480 mm in 35 mm equiv.) (28 - 560 mm in 35 mm equiv. in video recording)
Panny is touting an improved "Intelligent Noise Reduction."

Finger Grip

I like that it has a finger grip. Appears not to have a GPS bulge, GPS gone?

6.8...oh, well, the NB part will be in the AF at that...and the IQ of course.

Re: SX240 HS Spotted by Canonrumors.com - 20x zoom

Agree. To much zoom and an increase in MPs = decrease in IQ

Panasonic appears to be back on top as they have done the same they did with the FZ100 to FZ150 which put the FZ150 on top. Now the ZS15 gets the FZ150 sensor with a decrease in MPs.

f3.5 - 6.8 is unreal!

Looks like the sweet spot is going to be with the ZS15:
