Danny - some Fujichrome Sensia 100 shots (with a compact)

Someone mentioned a compact - I haven't got a Fuji one, but have a Contax Tvs III, and shot these last summer with that and some Fuji Sensia 100 (the Fuji connection here!!)

It's a nice camera, cool looking, and I was quite impressed with Fuji Sensia - not as smooth as pro via, and it's grainier but good enough I reckon.

Taken in West Wycombe Park and the poppies are in Wiltshire. (UK)

Very nice the film look kicks a$$ IMO I don't care what anyone says it's a more subtle tonality that I think looks great.

Re: Danny - some Fujichrome Sensia 100 shots (with a compact)

Hi ibbz,

I just saw these excellent pictures, I see tranquility in these images. Different films have different characters. I have about 30 rolls of film in my fridge, but I will try Sensia 100 when I spot them in shop, recently, I am in love with Kodak Ektar 100, may buy 10 rolls more, I love using it for portraits.

Each time I look at some excellent pictures, I see efforts and patience of the photographers behind those pictures. Thanks for sharing these beautiful images with us.

Some MODERN Fujifilm film compacts are really nice. For example the Natura series. The Silvi (may be different name in your part of world) and Klasses series.

A film photographer whose works I like a lots.

Re: Danny - some Fujichrome Sensia 100 shots (with a compact)

I think Sensia 100 has been discontinued - or was supposed to have been.

Sensia suffers from blocked up shadows as the latitude of the film isn't great. But the colours are nice and tones too (as mentioned)

I haven't ever used Provia 100F - any experience with this?

I used Ektar once or twice, but I cannot get the hang of scanning negative film - so I tend to stick with Slides. - But the results, after much work, were superb!

I tried Fuji 160 Pro (I forget which one) and it was fine, but again, I had problems with scanning negatives properly.

My favourite film is Velvia 50, it just is an amazing film.

I was on eBay and managed to get some rare films which some guy had in a freezer - 2 rolls of Agfa Ultra 100, and a roll of Konica Professional Portrait 160 - so look forward to shooting these.

Nice!

I've often thought of Sensia as the poor man's Astia. I still have a fair bit of Sensia 100 I grabbed from someone getting into digital photography (bless them all) and I got nearly 70 rolls of 35mm from his freezer.

70 rolls lasts a long time when you don't spray and pray

Great color in your shots!

70 rolls!!! haha!!! Well, it's that guys loss!!!

Have fun, and do post some!

Sorry for the late reply, very busy lately.

No, I mainly shoot with Fujifilm ASA200 Superia negative films and ASA400 X-tra Superia film, for 120 film, I use the cheapest Kodak film, because the Yashica D I bought (US$105) is not in very good condition, questionable shutter speed, I will not shoot slide films with it.

I used Ektar once or twice, but I cannot get the hang of scanning negative film - so I tend to stick with Slides. - But the results, after much work, were superb!

Yes, it is easier to scan slide.

I may get a Canon scanner to scan 120mm negative, because the processing lab crop away the boundaries.

The Ektar 100 is great for taking portraits, but not too good for landscape, may be because my roll was expired.

One of my Ektar 100 pictures.

I never shoot any real Velvia, but Velvia 100 is my favorite simulation (I bought a DXO Filmpack to do film simulations, great buy for US$99). Velvia 50 colors is too dramatic to me, but once in while, why not?

Velvia 50 simulation

Velvia 100 simulation

No simulation

Velvia 100 simulation

I have a roll of Agfa Vista 100 which I will shoot with my Gakkenflex plastic TLR and a roll of Agfa Vista 400, which I will shoot with my Ricoh GR1s. Normally the colours of my Ricoh GR1s pictures are not satuated/as colourful when comparing with pictures captured with my Fujifilm DL Super Mini Zoom (the EBC lens coating makes the difference?) I wish to see if the Vista will give me more colorful pictures.

Danny it's the other way around for me.

Ektar 100 isn't great for portraits the tonal rendering is not subtle enough and the saturation is too high (with some colours) Lower contrast would be preferable too

For landscapes it can work wonders at times but light is everything for landscape work. And the colour rendering is open to debate.

I've shot a few rolls of it but it's not a "general all round" film like the normal colour neg films so I think they suit my needs better.

Overall it's an interesting film but probably not one I "love"

Could be for my experience is limited to 2 rolls of Ektar 100, but I like the portraits pictures from Ektar over those from Fujifilm Superia ASA100.

Re: Danny - some Fujichrome Sensia 100 shots (with a compact)

Hi guys, sorry for late reply, was at work and times of the essence.

Fuji Velvia, I find, is difficult to reproduce to give it that 'look', I played around with DXO film pack, and to be honest, forget velvia, DXO wasn't great at emulating anything else for that matter including Tri X and Agfa Ultra.

But velvia, isn't great for skin tones, though if you're photographing something exotic, or someone, it could work...

When I picked up photography again several years ago, I read books published by many Japanese landscapes gurus, many were captured with Velvia.

Velvia is not for taking portraits, I use Velvia simulation to cut my already minimal 1+ minute PP and I am also too lazy to denoise, the Velvia emulation hides all the noises for me.

Some Velvia emulation

Wonderful!!!
It is why I still use film on occasion. Love the slight grain look.

Film simulation is also half as fun and is cheaper too

Re: To: ibbz (new)

No ibbz not anymore. I seem to be completely satisfied with the digital camera's that I do own. And oddly mostly I enjoy the older Fuji digicams.

Hope You are well and keep those fine images coming, too.
