More JAZZ CLUB images with the Nikon J1 !

I went again to the JAZZ CLUB, where a very "motley" group of musicians were playing: the singer is an Israelian girl -very pretty !-, who sang in hebrew, englisht and french, the harpist was a girl from Geneva, and the drummer and bass player were also -I think- from Switzerland ! I spent a marvelous night, starting a 9:30 PM and finishing at 00:30 AM next morning, with only a 20 minutes pause !

Except for #1, which was shot with D700 and 24-70, I used my Nikon J1 with the 10-30 and 30-110 zooms, allways HANDHELD (thanks Nikon's GREAT VR system !). The EXIF datas are embedded in each image ! Look carefully at the ISO and shutter-speed: I was stonished when I checked those datas !!!

Most excellent! Before reading your post, I saw picture number 1 and thought, "No, way." :-). Then of course I read your post and saw the EXIF info that it came from the D700 ;-). Having said that, and at the posted size, the J1 did an excellent job and certainly the results are attributed to the photographer's skills. Job well done. Cheers. -Norm

Most impressive - the VR makes up for a lot of lens stops!!!

And of course all the lenses work great at max aperture.

Hi Steve !

You're right ! As I allready said, I beleive the VR in the new Nikon 1 zooms seems to work better than the one in the "35mm." lens !

...maybe Nikon has improved something in it since VR II ?!?

Re: More JAZZ CLUB images with the Nikon J1 !

Very beautiful images! At least there is decent lighting at the club.

Thanks for the name of the group, found it on You Tube. I would like to hear them live.

Quite unusual instrumentation with the harp. They seem to do some very interesting sound-scapes.

Just a question to the images, how can you see the EXIF data? They don’t show up in my browser.

Less mass = less effort = faster response? I think Nikon made a very interesting engineering decision with CX - a "best all round compromise for most people" kinda decision which, frankly, works!

Either way it approaches miraculous 1/5s and slower is achievable with practice...

Really great pictures! And yes, you are right. The way the Nikon 1 series does the stabilization is fantastic. You even won't notice how good the VR works, only when you look at your images on a computer and see the EXIF data.
Sometimes you can't believe that you did that shot handheld.

I also like the skin tones, even others metioned in different threads that the skintones are not the best.
Like the images

Absolutely !

Check the EXIFS datas on the images #4 and #8 ! The pic #4 was shot at 1/4 of a second at 110mm. , and #8 was 1/3 of a second at 30mm. !

...I will be 66 years old in 2 months, so my "steadyness" is not anymore what it used to be... but I'm really astonished by the results obtained with the Nikon 1's VR system !

I allways refused to use VR lenses on my DSLRs... I tried several times, but never liked the VR on 70-200 for example !

Cheers,
J-P.

Hi Barto !

Indeed, their kind of "jazz" is definitely NOT what I've been used to... (but I'm an old fart ). I wouldn't even reaaly call it JAZZ, not CLASSICAL... IMHO it's more a kind of "experimental music" (which can include anything, :D) ! But I had a great night ! The girl has a superb voice and is VEEERY pretty..... The other musicians are very good, each one in their field ! The drums are well "controled" and -for once- don't overload the rest !

I don't know if they are based in Switzerland or if the singer changes musicians whenever she travels... But she speaks an excellent french, without accent !

Have a good week-end !
